Where will you CW'rs go when the NO-CODERS arrive?
Where will you Pro-Coders go now? I have a feeling that all you
against NO-CODE HF will like the new move. You may not like it now, but you will. If not, will you give up on Amateur Radio like several have stated they resigned there ARRL commission? There is no proof that anyone has resigned there ARRL Membership! Was it all talk and no action? You Pro-Coders are full of it and you know it. If it becomes a reality, I will be one of many who will get a membership with the ARRL to take the place of the grumpy old men. 55 years of age and older as the ARRL reported, so good bye!!! |

Where will we go?
We'll still be able to run code where we do now, and will. If the phonies don't like it, they can move down the band where they belong. ;-) Steve w8an Old School wrote: Where will you Pro-Coders go now? Dear Mr. George Bush,
"WA3MOJ" schrieb im Newsbeitrag ... Ill just run CW over the no code *******s. How are you going to determin, if someone did take the CW-test to get the licence? Doing like you announced will be a violation of the international Amateur Radio Rules. Are you going to make no more QSO with hams outside US? Are you going to make QSO only with hams they gave you proof of their CW-examination? Even from today on, you never can tell, if somone one the HF Bands did take the CW-Test. HF is not only for american hams. The majority of the entire ham radio world voted to drop the CW-requirement for getting access to frequencies below 30MHz at the WRC 2003 at Genever, and the american communications commission did as well. I've got my license in 1990, and had to go the full way, 60 signs per minute, the standart in Europe. Now it is allowed to get the same licence called CEPT without CW-test. Nobody over here in Europe is angry against them who will get the ability to work on the HF-bands now. We welcome them and will help them to get used to the new spectrum. What will you do, if you meet one of those GB, PA, HB9, OE, DL, VK and so on, just to name a few, on the portion of the band, which you call EXTRA-allocation-subband? Please specify, and give a full answer. Thank you, Mr. George Bush, WA3MOJ 73 de OE8SOQ Helmut |

Ok, at the time I am a no-code tech but I am working on getting my CW so I
can advance to General. I would prefer to go the "Old School" route as the people who got me into it also did. I think my 12 year old son is even challenging me on the CW. If I get it and my general, he goes and gets his tech. I got news for him. He'd better get ready for the CW cause when I take it, I am also going to take the Extra class in the same session so he had better get ready to go General pretty quick (laughing). On the other hand, I think that it is good that they are trying to make the hobby more attractive so that more might get into it. As a result, I do think that more "self-policing" should be practiced as in every crowd, you have a bad element. There isnt much for VE testing in my area and it conflicts with my schedule when one is in town. Therefore I have to work while I wait for the oppertunity to get the time. It is a well known fact that there is at least one other amateur in the area of an offending user. All it takes is some effort to protect it. It isnt that hard to report someone. Well I for one have a set of WARC, W5YI, and ARRL VEC badges for sale. I
certainly will not put my signature on your No-code HF license son!!!! Where will I go now? Well I thought about bailing out altogether. I will be that faint, almost imperceptible little sound way back there in the back, talking across the globe on 1 watt on my homebrew antennas and transmitters :) There will be no nocoders in my world son :) I have the ability to design a good enough RIT and crystal filter to tune you right out LMAO! And when you have a question or your radio breaks or something doesn't work, I will be the one who charges you an arm and a leg to fix it ROTFLMAO! I agree totally. I am really looking foreword to getting my general. I
don't mind the work of learning CW. I have both the G4FON and CodeQuick. I highly recommend the G4FON. I do use the CodeQuick if I find myself getting stuck or mixing up close or opposite sounds. I think that code should be required for the HF licenses. At 5WPM the people that really want it will work for it. If the ARRL does get the license changed so no-code gets some HF privileges, so be it. As long as folks stay where they belong in the band, things should still go ok. Its those select few that can screw it up. If you don't want to learn code, fine. But stay where you belong. As for me, it will be fun to know the code. I have a nephew that is wanting to learn it is well. He is currently studying for his tech license and will be joining me soon after that when he learns the code as well. This is a fun hobby. Its great to meet the people, talk to the older folks who started this out, and talk to others just getting into it as I am. Please don't wreck it for us newbies. 73 Doug / KC8YEC Dee D. I want to as well, but time doesnt allow that for me unless I get time soon. Odds are it will take the FCC about 2 years to make any changes (if they make any changes). If you practice 30 minutes per day using the free G4FON software, you should be ready to take the code test in about 2 months. Dee D. Flint, N8UZE |
