Scott KC8LDO Wireless Network Mobile computing on the go brought to you by Micro$oft I wonder how many alternators they had to install. If I turn the gain up on mine I lose tons of horse power. Horse power and wattts can be converted in a linear equation, all you need to know at this point is the efficiency of your amp and alternator. My old rig pulled 11HP, haven't calculated the new one but the sub amp is digital and WAY more efficient. it will beat your head on the dash and I still have yet to see it pull more than 25A. Those "digitial amps" are really called class "D" and they can range from 90 percent or better in efficiency. -- Leland C. Scott KC8LDO Wireless Network Mobile computing on the go brought to you by Micro$oft To make it even more confusing they can also be called class T because a certain company, tripower I think, makes a proprietary one chip wonder driver circuit. same operation different name. I prefer to call them switchers ![]() Chad |

I prefer to call them switchers ![]() I have an application note in one of my National Semiconductor data books for a high speed comparator chip that shows it being used in a switching type amplifier. Its a real simple circuit believe it or not. The design used bi-polar power transistors for the output. Now you can buy complete high power switching amp chips from several vendors with outputs up to 100 watts in some of the ads I saw. I don't use them for any designs I do so I don't really pay much attention to who sells them. I would assume that doing an Internet search would turn up some of vendors. -- Leland C.
