The variable power control on the front panel does not reduce the output
power,
I presume (rightly or wrongly) that there is a pot for the lower power
settings that needs adjusting to allow the front panel control to function
correctly.

Dont jump to conclusions and preach to people that are so much brighter
than yourself !

Ok then, I'll ask: Why do you want to reduce the power?

Too much drive, perhaps?

I won't spectulate because the dude chastised me for doing just that.
I shall patiently wait for a reply ;-)

The variable power control on the front panel -is- the power
adjustment pot. If it doesn't work then something else is wrong; i.e,
disconnected, bypassed or broke. There is no other pot -- you presumed
wrongly. In the future it would help to ask the right question instead
of "jumping to conclusions".

Upon further investigation the power varies on am but not fm mode ? so this
surely rules out the variable itself, this pot ultimately connects to the
pcb via a small preset variable resistor, which can vary the power according
to the mode selected,
I suggest you only make comments on subjects that you know something about
and not stick your nose in everybody elses business !

Kind Regards

Martin

cheers for the tech info, must have taken a while to learn the lingo : )

You asked for alignment info, not repair info. Apparently your radio
has a faulty component. It may also need alignment, but an alignment
will not repair the faulty component.

jump to all the conclusions you want to now, your getting boring

And you are avoiding the question: Why do you want to reduce the
power?

You guessed wrong, but that's OK, you're in PA, and we all know what comes
from there. You are forgiven.

BTW, it apparently got your attention.

Hey Martin, I have schematics and a freq mod for the Alan 48 if you still
need it.
If your 148 is the old style you can go here for mods
http://thexlclub.tripod.com/
They are for the grant XL. Same as the old 148. Mine will key 2.5 and swing
20. Lots of great mods on this site.
