I started stargazing when I lived in Palmdale in the early 60's and had a
dark sky that had countless stars in it. Never had a good telescope until the 90's. After reading about one John Dobson, I have followed his way as I am a 'Sidewalk Astronomer' and it is my mission to bring the wonders of the sky above to those who have never taken a bit of time to stop and look up. If my sore feet ease off a bit today and the asprin tone down the hurts, I may be up there tonight as I was last night. It is wonderful to hear the ah's and wow's of not only kids, but grown ups to as they see the moon for the first time in a telescope or see the rings of Saturn for the first time in their life. I know of a place where I can go and be alone and in the full dark to view the faint fuzzies of other galaxies, or look for the places where new stars are being born. And a fire would destroy my night vision so no fire near the scope. Right now I don't have a radio in the car, not sure how long I'll have this one, am kind of working on a deal that if gets done, I might end up with a S.wagon of the same year. I might put a simple mag mount on this one if I put a radio in it. But after the last 3 days I'm flate broke and can't do anything. Me and the owner of foster freeze don't see eye to eye, he's tried to have me removed from my spot, but even the cops say I'm within my rights and will not even come any more on his calls about me. Heck they stop by to have a look see now and then, they all know me in Rosamond. Been doing it almost 7 years here. Plus the radio I have is only an am one and have not been able to hear the local chatter just yet. Hello Starlord: I know that corner really well. Once in a while I will go thru the Frosty Freeze for lunch and a drink. Get Gas accross the street, and haul on out of there. If you keep going east you will run into Mohawk Man, and Lady Wrestler who live in one of those traier parks. Haven't heard them on in a long time tho ?!?!?!?! Why would you want to be looking at the sky when you find a desert lot somewhere having a fire and a few friends over??!?!?!? We use to have Star Gazing parties at one time. I never really got into looking at all this stuff but find it interesting. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Well, it depends on the weather, wanted to go last night, but the winds came
up and they didn't die down enough until way late. It looks like tonight will be ok IF the winds don't get bad again, they are saying rain saturday night, which is always a IFFY deal for out here. If I go up to the corner tonight, it may be the last time for the next 2 weeks until after New Moon. Once Saturn starts coming up sooner, then I'll be out there more, but that'll not be until after New years most likly. As it is, I got my car running again, otherwise I wouldn't have been going anyplace at all. -- The Forgotten http://home.inreach.com/starlord/forgotten.htm SIAR www.starlords.org Telescope Buyers FAQ http://home.inreach.com/starlord Car Fund Page Update http://www.bishopcarfund.netfirms.com/ "Jay in the Mojave" wrote in message ...
