lonely roads out west question

Hello. I am planning on an extra long road trip through Wyoming and
Montana (among other states, but those I have cell service in
allegedly) with only the dogs for company. I'm trying to convince some
overprotective people (that I love) that it can be done solo.

I don't have a cb, but am considering getting one for the journey.

Does anyone know if there are listeners out there in case of a car
breakdown, etc? It would help ease their mind.

Thanks!!

Venom July 26th 05 01:23 AM

Forget a CB...Get a nice .44 Mag and a GPS.
Happy trails.

Yes there is Sandy, on ch 19 there's so many people in the air, you'll have
to turn your squelch almost all the way up. Ch 9 is still the emergency
channel.

What's mostly handy about a mobile CB is the ability to find out what's the
traffic hold-up, and getting directions if you're lost. Most of the help
comes from truckers, so you have to adapt to some of their lingo. :)

Channel 19 is widely used by truckers. They will gladly stop to help a
damsel in distress. If you're getting off the beaten path, there are
better choices in addition to your CB.

Yes, most any town/city will have some cb'ers... You should have at
least a 100 watt linear behind the radio though, so you are able to get
some distance, just in case you break down more than a couple of miles
from a town/city...

Mother of all princes! You -can- add value at times. That is very
practical advice for a woman traveling solo relying on CB.

I have to agree with that. Most times I can run barefoot, but it's nice
to have the boost (and the preamp) once in a while.

When mobile, I run 500-1KW

It's more then you need. I used to run a modded TS-667V. I was told
I was heard on 19 over 40 miles away when there was no local traffic.
I moved back down to my TS-250, then to a low-end 2*455 amp. Less
current drain and I can still talk as far as I can hear.

If the band is open you'll talk. If it's not, you're ****ing in the wind.

that bad an idea. As with computers, backup, backup, backup! ;)

You'll have no problem finding truckers to talk with on the CB, just be
prepared to blush a little cuz some truckers tend to speak their minds w/o
thinking.

Get AAA+ plus before the trip, it's the best investmentment you'll ever
make.

From 200 to a kw on an omniantenna is not quite such a shock (still, pays to be

I don't know about the more populated areas of the US, but if a woman
driving alone in the inland NW calls for help on a CB she better be on
the Interstate or have a shotgun. Otherwise it's just an invitation to
get raped. Even some of the major state highways can have little or no
traffic on them for hours, and it's a long walk to any civilized
outpost.

Some of them are living an illusion
Bounded by the darkness of their minds,
In their eyes it's nation against nation,
With racial pride, sad hearts they hide,
Thinking only of themselves,
They shun the light,
They think they're right
Living in the empty shells.

No doubt. A friend of mine uses them for all kinds of crazy stuff, he's
even used them for towing his snow-plow truck. All he does is take the plow

I don't run power on my base at all. I don't need it on the base. A
visible water horizon and a directional gets 'er done. On the boat, I
can sound like a big strapper with the right power mic. Add a hundred
watts to that and one could damn near shut it down at times.

I AmnotGeorgeBush July 28th 05 10:18 PM

AAA..use it one time for towing and it damn near pays for itself.
