Hello MDW:

Yeah I am sure it would heat up a radio room on a cold night.

Man look at the price this old KW amp is going for, 3300 American
Dollars, TILT!

The amp shouldn't draw that much juice, since its only a stock ham band amp.

I worked on a amp that used two each 3CX300A7 Tubes, for Spectral
Analyst, a tool in mining. It drew an RF Arc, in a special chamber, and
the spectral light was looked and photographed by a optical analyzer,
that gave out the content for the material being tested. And it didn't
draw that much power, it didn't trip the 40 amp circuit bearkers that
supplied the 220 volts power to it. After the testing I plugged the
clothes dryer back in.

It just drew a lot of current when it was in transmit operation, but
that was just for a short while. So it didn't take a lot of juice for a
long period of time. But if it did that would be expenive. Kind of like
when the kid left his electric ceiling heater on for a few days.

Or the air compress runs open loon for a few days, because the air hose
leaks.

Edison isn't too bad. But they got upset when I disabled there power
lock out assembly, when they locked out my power, after I paid all the
Bills. I handed it back to them at there payment center.

Not a problem, I paid all my bills so they didn't have a leg to stand
on. I and they knew it.

Yeah disconnecting my power at the pole would have done it. But they
would have had to "Hi Occo" it back the next day any way.

I had leg surgery back in the 80's. I went down to a welding supply shop
to buy a new set of bottles, torches, and regulators, at half price.
Hobbling around on Crutches.

I stooped off by the office at work to give them some papers. When I
hobbled back to the truck, they put on a metal restraining bar on my
front tire. Well with a new set of Cutting Torches, Bottles, and such, I
made quick work of their metal restraining bar. Leaving it there in a
pile of rubble, not in premium shape, I laughed all the way home.
Besides I was parked in a legal parking place.

Somethings ya wish ya had a picture of.

Jay,

Not that you are a bad customer as far as the electric utility is concerned,
but here in Texas we have 48 hours to reconnect a customer after they
pay...and sometimes, we do make them wait 47 if they have been too much of a
pain. Of course, we only do that because we are so backlogged. :-) And that
usually fixes the problem. You don't know how much you depend on electricity
until you don't have it.

If my memory serves me correct the main amp section used a pair of
4-400A's in the final and a pair of 810's in the modulator section.
The pictures show that this was built like a battle ship. For high
level AM you needed about 20 watt carrier and 10 watts of audio. Dead
key about 750 watts plate modulated AM signal. At one time that deck
was as powerfull as some broadcast AM stations at night.

Definitely heavy with the steel desk attachment.

Hello U-K-W:

I am sure they could have taken their sweet time, but I reconnected it
myself. They had a lock out bar over the main breaker. That was easy to
remove, with Mr. Hack Saw.

Yes I have to agree with you there about missing the electric power. I
have looked into low voltage, battery systems for remote places that
don't have electric power run to them. I keep on coming up with a gas or
disle generator.

One guy I work with, we have priced out different power systems and such
for his remote home in the Seria Mountains. After years of running a gas
generator, and charging batteries and such. He was able to have Edison
run in a power poles and a step down transformer for under 5000 dollars,
which we figured to be cheap, as compared to all the other ways of
getting power to the house.

Now he can run a big linear.

Small generators go for less then 100Euro (120$ ?) here.

AC is measured in Watts, 4 kW?
100A/h 12V battery, 70 % efficiency converter 1200 x .7 = 840 W/h available AC.
So 840 / 4000 = .21 hours = 12.6 minutes.

Looks like a death trap. No protection over the HV area, and ONLY! two
813 Tubes, Might be good for only 700 -800 Watts out if ran properly.
Besides, 813s WILL NOT work on 11 or 10 Meters, 20 meters at the best.

Looks like a pair of 813's on the modulator deck and what might be a
4-400A or 4-1000A on the RF deck. Assuming the latter, and running
Class C AM, it should be good for much more than a kilowatt.

BTW, the 813 is rated for full power up to 30 MHz and several project
articles have been written about amps that run them at 10m. One local
CBer here built an amp using a pair of them and gets 600+ watts.
