Does anyone know of some fairly welknown chips that I can investigate that
might help me to learn about dsp and how I can incorporate it into my
receiver...

Hi Larry.

There's a very interesting article in the July 2005 issue of RSGB's
RadCom magazine, by Phil Harman (VK6APH, ) and
Steve Ireland (VK6VZ,
).

The article describes the practicalities of using the KK7P DSP board to
build a 1.8MHz receiver. This may be a good starting point for your
project.
