Take it from one who has done a few hamateur/900 Maxtrac conversions. First and foremost: Programming is only part of the effort. You can use the well-known 'shift-key' trick, with the stock Maxtrac RSS, to enter the frequencies for 900MHz amateur systems. HOWEVER -- just because the radio takes them does not necessarily mean it will work without modification there. One thing you need to be concerned with are modifications to the VCO to even get the thing to cover amateur frequencies. Next, you need to replace some filters in the receiver section so the front end won't be deaf as the proverbial post at amateur frequencies. Info on the (extensive) modifications required may be found at these links: http://www.batlabs.com/maxrad.html (scroll about 1/4 of the way down, look for '900MHz Amateur Radio Conversion') http://www.batlabs.com/max900a.html (Details the full-blown full- coverage conversion. Not for the weak of heart or electronically unskilled). Happy hunting. -- Dr. Anton T. Squeegee, Director, Dutch Surrealist Plumbing Institute.
