Perhaps those who replied below are closet CBers - did they
buy their rigs off-the-shelf and do they send them back to be repaired?

Well, I have been back reading the amateur radio newsgroups for
only about two weeks after abandoning them quite some time ago.

How about being a _REAL_ Radio Ham and writing the
software for yourself?
What does writting software have to do with ham radio?

There is some connection there. Admittedly, the idea that you have to be a
programmer to be a "real ham" is pretty stupid, but that does not take

away
from the fact that many good hams are programmers.
