After a dirty-bomb goes off, no one will care about licenses, only where to
dig the mass grave.

And why in the world suggest FRS?

You can buy 100 of them for the price of just a few GMRS only radios,
and get GMRS and FRS in the same radio.

Then you get to pay for all those GMRS licenses, unless you
live in one of those areas where everyone is related.

Sheesh. Beat the rush -- start driving down the wrong side of
the street today.

You mean the 'combined' FRS/GMRS radios that cover both services but
are still limited to FRS only power levels.

Not much better. At least the GMRS only radios allow you to go 2W of
power.

Although it probably won't be long until there's a radio that does
selectable
power on the GMRS frequencies, and low power only on the FRS only
frequencies.

By the way, I picked up a 'blister card' with 2 GMRS HTs on it at BJs for
$25 after rebate. Granted, that was last year. The 2W units...

I guess my main point was that most emergencies are very local, and just need
a crossband repeater to get out of the hole. Don't buy a 60 to 500 MHz radio,
and don't buy radios that cost $150 a piece. Get a whole bunch of radios that
you can throw away when they break, or get stolen.
