7X, ALGERIA. Yves, F5MSR (ex-FT2XE and one of the F6KAT ARS gang), will
once again sign 7X0MT from Algier, Algeria. The length of his stay is
not known at this time. He will use a FT 817 (QRP) and a long wire. His
activity will be mainly on CW and the digital modes. QSL via his home

9M0, SPRATLY ISLANDS (Update). Spratly Island 9M2SDX DXpedition will take
place this week from Pulau Layang Layang (AS-051) in the Spratly Island
group, March 10-19th. Operators will include members of the Malaysian
Amateur Radio Transmitter’s Society (MARTS) and a group of JA operators.
Malaysian operators mentioned a Chow/9M2CF, Kiyohiro/9M2/JH3GCN,
Tex/9M2TO and Yasumasa/9M8YY. JA operators mentioned a Yoshiaki/JA1OCZ,
Tack/JE1CKA, Harumi/JF1PJK, Naoyuki/JK1FNL, Miho/JJ2VLY, Yutaka/JQ2GYU and
Takashi/JR7TEQ. They plan to have 2-4 stations up and running for 24 hours
on all bands 160-6 meters, and on CW, SSB, RTTY and PSK modes. QSL via

upcoming DXpedition to Huang Yan Dao (Scarborough Reef) which will take

CN, MOROCCO. Members of the Dar Bouazza Contest Group (DBCG), will activate
their ARRAM club station (CN8MC) in Rabat, during the CQ WW WPX SSB Contest
(March 24-25th) as CN5W and as a Multi/Single entry. Operators mentioned

DAYTON HAMVENTION DX DINNER. Jay, K4ZLE, states, "This is a reminder of
the 22nd annual DX Dinner to be held in conjunction with the 2007 Dayton
HamVention. The dinner will be Friday evening, May 18th, at the Crowne
Plaza Hotel, located in Dayton City Center. This is the same venue as in
years past. Our key speaker will be Ward Silver, N0AX. Ward is a well known
DXer, Contester and author. In addition to the camaraderie and fellowship
we expect to continue the tradition of have some very nice attendance
prizes - last year the main prize was an Icom IC-756 Pro III! We have
upgraded the menu this year. Tickets are 36.00 USDs per meal, payable in
US funds to SWODXA. (Sorry, We do not process PayPal or Credit Card
payments.) Please advise if you want a vegetarian meal when you order. You

DAYTON HAMVENTION RTTY FORUM. Shelby, K4WW, informs that the 2007 Dayton
RTTY forum will take place on Sunday, May 20th, from 10:15-12:00 at Hara
Arena, in Room 2. Speakers will be Ken/K1EA and Ed/W0YK. He states, "Ken
will discuss log checking, and distinguish between myth and reality,
busted/unique calls, serial numbers, and packet poaching. Ed will give
ideas of efficiently improving RTTY contesting. Time permitting, there
will be a question/answer session following the presentations."

DQ50, GERMANY (Special Event). Look for special event station DQ50SAAR
to be active through the end of the year. Activity is to celebrate the
50th anniversary of the DARC Distrikt SAAR (Q). This activity counts as
a special DOK 50SAAR. A special QSL will be issued and available via
DO7VLR. QSLs will be sent automatically via the Bureau.

EK0, ARMENIA. Operators Hovik/EK6TA, Anna/EK6YL, Leszek/SP9LJD and Kazimierz
SP9UON/DJ0MCZ will be active as EK0B during the CQ WW WPX SSB Contest
(March 24-25th) as a Multi/? entry. QSL via SP9ERV.

FK, NEW CALEDONIA (Also 3D2/R). Tony, 3D2AG (aka FO5RK), is currently
active as FK/FO5RK from Noumea, until the end of April. Activity is mainly
CW on 40 meters after 0600z and 20 meters after 0900z. Reports indicate
that he will go to Rotuma in May/June and operate as 3D2AG/p.

HB0, LIECHTENSTEIN. Look for two WorldWide Young Contesters (WWYC) teams
to activate Liechtenstein between March 16-19th, and participate independ-
ently in the Russian DX Contest (March 17-18th) from there. The German
team, consisting of Simon/DJ4MZ, Matthias/DK4YJ, Ulf/DK5TX, Christoph/DK9TN
and Martin/DL5RMH, will sign HB0/homecall outside of the contest, but will
be active as HB0/DK4YJ in the Russian DX Contest as a Multi-2 entry. QSL
via the Bureau to their home callsigns. The Croatian Team, consisting of
Dragan/9A2SX, Igor (Siro)/9A3AXX, Hrle/9A6XX and Mark/9A8MM, will sign
HB0/homecall outside of the contest, but will be active as HB0/9A8MM in

HF40, POLAND. Members of the "Piastowski Klub Krotkofalowcow" will activate
their club station (SP6PAZ) using the special event callsign HF40PAZ to
celebrate their 40th anniversary. The station will be on the air between
March 1st and April 30th, and again between September 1-30th. Also, look
for HF40PAZ to be active in the 2007 CQWW WPX SSB Contest (March 24-25th).

HI, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC. Javier, NM6E, informed OPDX on Thursday that he is
in Santo Domingo and is active as HI8/NM6E. He will be in the country on
an extended work assignment until March 15th. He plans to travel around
the country, so look for him to also sign HI3/NM6E (Santiago) and HI7/NM6E
(Punta Cana). Activity will be on 80-10 meters CW/SSB. Javier will use his
K2 #4409 (QRP) station and a Super Antenna MP-1 vertical (10-80 plus wire
antennas). His operation will be from the hotel pool areas or beach as his
work schedule permits. He was expected to be in this past weekend's ARRL
International DX SSB Contest (QRP Category) and Elecraft QSO Party (both
modes, common QRP calling freqs). Depending on his work, Javier should be
on in the evenings and on the weekends. QSL via LOTW ONLY.

IOTA NEWS...............................
AF-019. Operator Luigi, IK8HCG, will be active as IG9R from Lampedusa
Island during the next CQWW DX SSB Contest (October 27-28th)
as a Single-Op/Single-Band (20m) entry. QSL via IK8HCG.

AS-099/
EU-186. Operators Pavel/TA2ZAF (OK1MU), Slavek/OK1TN, David/OK1RK,
Standa/OK1AU, Karel/OK1DG, Zdenek/OK1FIA and Vlada/OK1CW will
activate two Turkish Islands between March 4-11th. They will
be using the special callsigns TC0DX and YM0DX to activate
the Gokceada (EU-186) and Bozcaada (AS-099), respectively.
Activity will be on 40-10 meters CW/SSB. They will have three
IC-746PRO, 2 x PA, 5 elemnet Spiderbeam, 17m 2 element Delta
Loop, 20m HB9CV and loops for 30m and 40m. QSL via OK2GZ,
either by the OK Bureau or direct or via E-mail (for Bureau

NA-082. Members of the University of Mississippi ARC (W5UMS) will be
activating Horn Island, March 10-11th. Operators mentioned are
Barrett/W5BJC, Jim/W5JMO, Mike/WB5HSX and Mike/W5MPC. The team
will be on the island from around noon Saturday through noon
Sunday. Operation will be on 80/40/20 meters CW, SSB and the
Digital modes around the regular IOTA frequencies. The callsign
used will be K5I. QSL via W5MPC.

OC-137. Tim, VK4HFO, on Lamb Island, is expected to be active on 40
meters for stations wanting this IOTA. Look for him starting
at 0600z onwards and again at 1700z onwards. Tim can be found
working ZL1BMW most mornings around 7060 kHz (+/- QRM/QRN).

IPY ACTIVITY. Following the recent "Antarctica Activity Week'' event,
look for operator Charles, M0OXO, and the North Wakefield Radio Club to
be operating the special event station GB4IPY from March 1-15th. Activity
is to celebrate the "International Polar Year". Look for them to be active
on all HF bands on SSB, PSK31 and CW. QSL Manager is M3ZYZ. Also, a brand
new WAP reference has been issued: WAP-098. ADDED NOTE: Remember, the
following stations are also expected to be active a
TM4IPY - Operator Francois/F8DVD; QSL via his home callsign.
LZ07IPY - Operator Svetly/LZ3SM; QSL via his home callsign.
IA3IPY - Operator Adriano/I3XMQ; QSL via his home callsign.
IP7IPY - Francesco/IZ7AUH; QSL via his home callsign.

J75, DOMINICA. The W2RZS Amateur Radio Club will be returning to Dominica
for the 2007 CQ WW WPX SSB Contest (March 24-25th) and they will be using
their J75RZ callsign. This will be their third trip to J7-land. They expect
to arrive on March 21st and stay for 6 days. Their "home" will be the
Harmony Villa which boasts a 1700 foot elevation and is situated in the
rain forest. Due to work schedules, there will be only two operators this
trip; Bob/WB2NVR (J79RS) and Mike/WA2VQW (J79VQ). They will be active
before and after the contest and will be concentrating on the lower bands.
All QSLs for J75RZ should be sent to W2RZS via direct or by the bureau.

J8, ST. VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES. Look for Gary, W0AW, to be active
as J8/W0AW from the Island of Bequia (pr. Bek-way) in the Grenadine Islands
(NA-025), March 10-16th. He will be using an ICOM IC-7000 and an inverted
"L" for 80-10 meters. If antenna space is available there will also be
some operations on 160m. Activity will be CW, RTTY, and some SSB. QSL via
W0AW, either by the bureau or direct.

KH6, HAWAII. Matsuda, JM3PIT, will be active as KH6/JM3PIT from Oahu,
March 21-25th. His activity will include the CQ WW WPX SSB Contest
(March 24-25th). QSL via JM3PIT, by the Bureau.

LZ129, BULGARIA (Special Event). Members of the Balkan Contest Club (LZ1KZA
& LZ5A) will activate the special event callsign LZ129LO from March 1-31st,
to commemorate 129th anniversary of the "Liberation of Bulgaria from Ottoman
yoke by Russia." The special station LZ129LO counts 10 points towards the
"St. Teodosii Tyrnovski Award":

are excerpts of an E-mail from Dimiter, LZ1AF, one of the higher profile
DXers from Bulgaria, addressing pilferage of currency directed to his
P.O. Box in Sofia. This may be of interest for anyone needing a quick
LZ QSL reply not only from Dim, but other LZ stations as well:
"I QSL via the QSL bureau 100%, and direct if required. I am going to
have LZ50DX cards printed soon. For either of my calls, QSL via Bureau
or Direct via P.O. Box 412, 1000 Sofia, Bulgaria. For direct replies,
please include an SAE + 1 new IRC return postage (rather than USD because
dollars are often intercepted. Thus, I am not aware of the QSL sent!).

SILENT KEYS................
OPDX and its readers would like to send out our deepest sympathy to
the families and friends of the following Silent Keys.

SU1ER. Early last week Hamad, 9K2HN, informed the DX community that
Ezzat Sayed Ramadan, President of the Egypt Amateurs Radio
Assembly (EARA - Egypt's IARU Society), became a Silent Key
(SK). On February 25th, 9K2HN states, "It is with grief and
deep sorrow that I received this morning the news of the sudden
loss of our good friend, Ezzat Ramadan (SU1ER) who passed away
peacefully. We would like to pass our deepest heartfelt condolences
to his family on behalf of the Arab Radio Amateurs. May his soul
rest in peace. For the people who never met Ezzat, he was very
constructive in supporting Amateur Radio in Egypt and the Arab
world. Ezzat will be greatly missed....."

N6ZZ. Well known contester Phil Goetz, N6ZZ, became a Silent Key (SK)
on February 27th after suffering from a brain hemorrhage. Phil
lived in of Alto, NM, and was 64 years old. For more info on

SU, EGYPT. Just a reminder that a small group of Egyptians and members of
the Lufthansa Radio Club will activate the special event callsign SU8DLH
(DLH stands for Deutsche Lufthansa) from Cairo, March 5-10th (possibly
the 12th). Activity will be on all bands CW/SSB/Digital. 160m will only
be possible with a maximum 100 watts and an inverted Vee fixed at 18m!

TOPBANDER DX DINNER AT VISALIA. Earl, K6SE, announces that the Topbanders'
DX Dinner will take place on Friday, April 27th, at 6:30 PM in the banquet
room at the Sizzler Steak House, 2121 W. Caldwell Ave. in Visalia, CA,
during the International DX Convention there. Dinner attendees will order
from the Sizzler menu and pay their tabs individually. There is no fee to
