4L, GEORGIA. Operator Gia, 4L4WW, will be active during the CQ WW WPX
SSB Contest (Mar 29-30th) as a Single-Op/??/High-Power entry. QSL via

6Y, JAMAICA. Operators David/KY1V, John/K6AM and Scott/W4PA will be
active as 6Y1V during the CQ WW WPX SSB Contest (March 29-30th) as a
Multi-Single entry.

7P, LESOTHO. The next big operation will take place this week by Belgium
operators and members of the Radio Club Secunda from South Africa. They
will be active as 7P8FC from Katse Dam in Lesotho from March 27th to

8R, GUYANA. Olli, OH0XX/HP1WW, will be active as 8R1K during the CQ WW

9M0, SPRATLY ISLANDS (Update). Operator Ed/N1UR and his xyl Christine/
KB1PQN (her first DXpedition) are now active from Layang-Layang Island
Resort, Spratly Islands (AS-051), until 0000z, March 30th. Both operators
are using the callsign 9M6/N1UR. There has been plently of activity on

9X, RWANDA (Update). The 9X0R operation will be ending this week (announced
date, March 27th). As this was being written, the multi-national DXpedition
team has made just over 40k QSOs: 20k/CW, 15k/SSB and 4k/RTTY. The complete

CQ NEWS. Richard Moseson, W2VU, Editor for CQ Amateur Radio, sent out
the following press release on March 21st (2008): "Kosovo Added to CQ DX
Awards Country List Effective 2/17/08 -- Kosovo is being added to the
list of countries and territories recognized for CQ DX awards, effective
immediately, CQ DX Awards Manager Billy Williams, N4UF, announced today.
Verifications for contacts made on or after February 17, 2008 are
acceptable for CQ DX Award credit. CQ DX Honor Roll members with 335 or
more credits should update by May 31st for highest placement in Honor
Roll listings.
The new 339 entity maximum will appear on CQ DX Honor Rolls to be
prepared in early June. CQ DX Honor Roll listings prepared in early
April will be based on a 338 maximum count.
All Kosovo contacts will count for field KN on applications for the
CQ DX Field Award.
Kosovo's status has been the subject of some controversy in the amateur
radio community as well as the world community, as the ARRL declared that
special operations from there on February 17 will count as Serbia, not
Kosovo, in terms of DXCC credit. The United States and many European
countries immediately recognized Kosovo's independence. However, Russia
and China are opposed to it and Russia has threatened to veto any U.N.
action to recognize Kosovo as an independent nation.
'We are aware that the ARRL has not yet added Kosovo to the DXCC list,'
explained CQ magazine Editor Rich Moseson, W2VU. 'The League says it is
waiting for Kosovo to become a member state of the United Nations or be
issued a callsign block by the International Telecommunications Union
(ITU), a U.N. agency. However, because of geopolitical issues far beyond
the realm of amateur radio, it is unlikely that the United Nations or the
ITU will act on Kosovo in the near future, even though the United States
and many other countries have granted it recognition.'
'Because it is CQ's policy to grant credit for contacts with 'new'
entities as of the date that their status changes,' Moseson continued,
'we have decided not to wait for U.N. action, but to follow the lead of
the United States and other countries that have recognized Kosovo's
independence, and to grant credit for contacts made with stations in
Kosovo as of its independence day, February 17, 2008.'
(NOTE: This action does not affect the country list for the CQ WW DX
Contest. CQWW rules state that its country list is composed of those
entities on the DXCC list and the WAE (Worked All Europe) award list.
If the WAE Committee decides to add Kosovo to its list, it will auto-
matically be added to the CQWW list.)"

CT, PORTUGAL. Operators Jose/CT1ENQ and Paulo/CT1ETE will be active as
CT7X during the CQ WW WPX SSB Contest (March 29-30th) as a Multi-Single/

D7, SOUTH KOREA. Operators Cho/DS5TOS, Ho/6K5WOB, Si-yeul/6K5XYB, Ha/
6K5XQE, Bae/6K5YPD, Kenny/6K5YOQ and Tai/DS2NMJ will be active as D73D
during the CQ WW WPX SSB Contest (March 29-30th) from Daego City, Korea.

DXCC NEWS. Bill Moore, NC1L, ARRL DXCC Manager, reports that the following
operations are approved for DXCC credit:
S05A - Western Sahara; 2007 Operation

E7, BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA (News). The International Telecommunications Union
(ITU) announced last year on August 8th (2007), that they replaced the
callsign series prefix block of Bosnia-Herzegovina (BiH) from T9 to E7.
It was announced this past week that effective 2300z, March 21st (March
22nd, 1200 AM in Bosnia-Herzegovina), Amateur Radio operators from BiH
will begin using their new E7 callsigns. Boris Knezovia, T93Y (soon to be
E73TW), stated the Communications Regulatory Agency has issued only two
and three letter callsigns suffixes. Applications for one letter suffixes
can be applied for starting April 14th and hopefully will be issued in
late May 2008.

E7, BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA. Operator Emir/OE1EMS and a team will be active
as E77DX during the CQ WW WPX SSB Contest (March 29-30th) as a Multi-2
entry. QSL via OE1EMS (QSL also is "OK" via T98U).

EI, IRELAND (EU-115). Dieter, DK2AT, will be active as EI/DK2AT from
near the capital Dublin between now and March 30th. He is on holiday
but activity will be on CW and SSB using a FT-897 with 100 watts into
a 10m vertical. QSL via his home callsign, direct or by the bureau.

HAM COM DX DINNER. The Lone Star DX Association is proud to announce
that Eric Scace, K3NA, the co-leader from the recent record breaking
VP6DX Ducie Island DXpedition will be the keynote speaker for the LSDXA's
DX Dinner Banquet at HamCom 2008, June 13-14th, at the Plano Center,
north of Dallas, according to LSDXA President Tim Pearson, K5AC. Dinner
tickets are 36.00 USDs each and may be ordered through the Ham Com 2008

The dinner will be in the ballroom of the Holiday Inn Express at 700
Central Expressway (U.S. Highway 75)at 6:30 p.m. Additional information

later. In addition, the LSDXA will have its usual plethora of door prizes

HB0, LIECHTENSTEIN. Michael, DG3NDN, will be active as HB0/DG3NDN between
now and March 28th. Activity will be on SSB only on 80/20 meters. QSL

IOTA NEWS.........................
EU-029. Ben, DO1BEN, will be active as OZ/DO1BEN from Lolland Island
(DIA SJ-015 for the Danish Islands Award, WW Loc. JO54QV)
until March 28th. Activity will be on all HF bands. QSL via

EU-120. Chris, M0DOL, will be active as M0DOL/p and GX4KPT from
Lindisfarne Castle on Holy Island starting April 5th for
six days. The CASHOTA reference number will be given when
QSOs take place. QSL via M0DOL.

EU-171. Operators Ela/DL1TM and Tor/DJ4MG will once again be active
as OZ/homecall from Ingstrup (JO47UH), Community of Lokken,
Nordjylland Island, Denmark, between March 24th and April
10th. They plan to have two stations on the air. One on SSB
operating 160/80/40/20/15 meters and the other on PSK31 on
40/20 meters. Antennas will be a spiderbeam, a 160m loop and
a DK9SQ loop. They will also be on 2 meters SSB with only
100 watts and an 11 element yagi at 16m above the ground
level. They also plan to participate in the Nordic Activity

EU-174. Operators Steve/G4EDG, Jeff/G4ELZ, Vasko/LZ1CL and Tony/LZ1JZ
will be active from Samothraki Island between March 25th and
April 5th. They will be using the special callsign SY8JZ,
mainly on CW but with some SSB. QSL via LZ1JZ.

NA-234. (NEW ONE!) The KL7DX IOTA DXpedition to Chuginadak Island
(Grid AO52) is planned to take place from July 21-27th. At
the moment team members include Yuri/N3QQ, John/KE7V and
Yuri/UA9OBA. The team will try to make as many as possible
2-way radio contacts with IOTA Island Chasers on all HF bands
including 6 meters. As of right now they are in the final
planning stages for Chuginadak Island (Islands of Four Mountains
Group) NA-234 Amateur Radio DXpedition. Estimated dates a
Landing on or around July 21st, 2008, departure on or around

IO, ITALY. The TEN-FIFTY Contest Group will be active as IO5O during the
CQ WW WPX SSB Contest (March 29-30th) as a Multi-Single entry. Current

JT, MONGOLIA (JT DX Contest). Khos, JT1CD, informs OPDX that this year
marks the 50th anniversary of Amateur Radio in Mongolia. The members of
the Mongolian Amateur Radio Society (MARS) will organize a "JT HAMRADIO
50 Anniversary DX Contest" at the end of the year (between 0000z, November
15th and 0000z November 16th).

KH2, GUAM (OC-026). Yoshi, JE2EHP, will be active as K1HP/KH2 between
April 18-21st. Activity will be on SSB and CW, on all HF bands plus 6m.
QSL via his home callsign by the bereau.

KP2, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS. Remember to look for Harry, W6DXO, to be active
as KP2/W6DXO from St. John, March 24-28th. Activity will be holiday style
with a focus on 20-10 meters SSB with some CW planned. Operations on 40
meters may take place if an antenna can be rigged up. QSL Manager is

LX, LUXEMBOURG. Dr. Csaba, DH7KU (HA7XQ), will be active as LX/DH7KU
during his Easter holiday and spare time between March 26-28th. His
equipment will be a QRP-99 IV TRX from KNE (about 10W), and he will use

LX, LUXEMBOURG. Operator Philippe, LX2A will be active as LX7I during
the CQ WW WPX SSB Contest (March 29-30th) as a Single-Op/All-Band entry.

M8, ENGLAND. Members of the Cray Valley RS will be active as M8C during
the CQ WW WPX SSB Contest (March 29-30th) as a Multi-? entry. QSL via

PACIFIC TOUR CONTINUES. Operator Willy/ON5AX and his XYL Magda/ON3AX
continue to be active from the Pacific locations on their three month
tour. By the time you read this, they should be active from their next
stop, Lord Howe Island, as VK9ALH until March 30th. Activity will be on
CW, SSB and PSK31 using an Alinco DX70 transceiver with only 100 watts
into a groundplane antenna designed and made by Tony, ON4CEQ. QSL via
ON5AX or ON3AX. Next stop is Australia as VK4/ON5AX between April 2-7th.

the QSL Manager for 5B4AIZ, 9M6LSC and C4Z. However, PLEASE NOTE that

operation by Brian, G4ODV/5B4AIZ, for his activity between March 6-10th

"There appears to be some confusion and incorrect QSL routing inform-
ation in circulation for the operation from 9M6LSC between 6th and 12th
March 2008. 9M6LSC is a club station and this operation was by Brian,
G4ODV aka 5B4AIZ. QRZ.com lists the QSL route as being via JN1WTK,
which is incorrect. Some sources list G4ODV and even G4OBK as the QSL
route. The correct route for this operation *ONLY* is via G3SWH.

R1, ANTARCTICA (Russian Expedition). A large Russian Antarctic Expedition
did start last March 13th, at 0800z, leaving from Cape Town, South Africa,
on board the ship "Academician Fedorov" on a route to Antarctica. Planned
goals are to visit the following Antarctic bases: Station Progress,
Station Mirnyj, Station Molodezhnaya and Station Novolazarevskaya. There
are plans for visiting 2 more Antarctic bases including possibly Maitri
Base. Leading the expedition is Valey Sushkov, RW3GW, who did replace
Yuri Zaruba, UA9OBA, who is actually very busy. The team also includes
Michael Botchkarev (ex-UA0XB) the head of film radio expedition. Look
for the callsign R1ANT to be used. While on board the "Academician
Fedorov", they will use R1ANT/MM starting March 24th. They will use
a FT-897D with only 100W and the following antennas: 6BTV, 20m Delta
loop and 20m Vertical. Activity will be on 40/30/20 meters on SSB, CW,
RTTY and PSK. For a special card, QSL via RW3GW - the general producer
and the author of the project "Antarctica". Dates and more details on
operations in Antarctic will be available after April 2nd. Watch the WAP

SPDX CONTEST (75th Anniversary). Tony, SP8AJK (SP75N), wants to remind
everyone that 2008 SP DX Contest (April 7-8th) is getting very close.
This year it is a very special contest edition celebrating the 75th
anniversary of the SP DX Contest (first organized in 1933). To celebrate
the SP DX Contest, the Polish Amateur Radio Union and SP DX Club are
sposnsorig a special Jubilee Award: The SP DX Contest - 75th Anniversary

TO4G, GLORIOSO ISLANDS (Update). The Web site for the upcoming Glorioso
Island (Glorieuses - AF-011) DXpedition is now available online at:

Days are currently NOT set yet, but the operation will take place between
May 6th and June 6th. Activity will be on 160-6 meters, CW, SSB and the
Digital modes. Frequencies will be published later closer to operation
or can be viewed at the above Web site. The team is looking for sponsors
and donations for this operations (details on Web page). Glorioso is
currently ranked #4 on the "DX Magazine's Most Wanted List". The pilots
stations for this DXpedition a

They are awaiting the confirmation for Asian pilot station(s) (possibly
Toshi/JA1ELY and Mike/UA0MF). The DXpedition is still looking for a
pilot for North America (west coast).

TX5C, CLIPPERTON ATOLL DXPEDITION UPDATE (More). The TX5C operation went
QRT at 1400z, March 15th, two days earlier than originally planned. This
was due to both weather and sea conditions. The Captain of the Shogun
determined that an earlier departure was required to ensure the safety
of his crew and their team. Their Web page states, "We began moving
equipment offshore two days prior in challenging conditions. By the time
the last team members were extracted from the atoll late in the day, all
but one of the zodiac spare propellers had been broken on the reef. The
Shogun pulled anchor at 0130z, March 16th, and as the sunset, the team
watched Clipperton Atoll slowly fade from view." Their Web page now
reports a total of 71,794 QSOs in 156 hours (6.5 days) of operating:
CW/34171, SSB/33843 and RTTY/3780. QSL via N7CQQ, by the bureau or direct

VK9A, NORFOLK ISLAND. Masa, VK1ANU, is now active as VK9ANU until April
2nd. Activity will be on 80-10 meters using vertical antennas for the
LF, a wire for HF and only 100w. He was heard this past week on 80/40/30
meters CW. Remember, he will also be an entry in CQWW WPX SSB Contest

VP5/VQ5, TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS. Remember to look for operators Bill/
KX4WW, Vic/W4VIC, Noll/W9RN and Bruce/W4OV to be active as VP5/homecall
between March 24th and April 1st. The group will be active in the CQ WPX
SSB Contest (March 29-30th) using the special callsign VQ59W. QSL VQ59W

YB0, INDONESIA. Members of the Orari Kebayoran Radio Club will activate
their club station YB0ZDA during the CQ WW WPX SSB Contest (March 29-30th)
as a Multi-Op/All-Band (no 160m) entry. All QSLs for YB0ZDA will be replied
by direct or by the Bureau. Operators mentioned a Fan/YB0AI, Anna/
YE0ANA, Rani/YC0UI, Kar/YB0NDT, Pri/YB0ECT and Gus/YB0MJY.

ZS8, MARION ISLANDS. Rhynhardt, ZS6DXB, reports (edited): "Following the
fairy tale of 3Y0E Bouvet Island, Petrus Kritzinger, ZS6GCM, sets out to
yet another unique amateur radio venture that many DX'ers around the world
can only dream about. Petrus will be QRV from Marion Island #6 on the 'DX
Magazine 2007 Most Wanted List' as ZS8T. He is expected to be QRV by May
2008 depending on his work load. Building on the success of the 3Y0E Bouvet
Island operation, Petrus wanted to take his amateur radio activity to the
next level. Having more time to effectively plan the operation from Marion
Island as ZS8T, work began to set a team together that could rise above the
high standards that were set during the 3Y0E Bouvet Island operation.
The ZS8T team consists of the following people:

One of the first tasks was to start work on a website that could take
DXpedition Web sites to a new standard. Chris/DL6KAC, Col/MM0NDX and
Stan/SQ8X really stood up to the challenge and created an interactive
website that will change the future of DXpedition Web sites. The team
has built in a unique news cluster into the site that you can subscribe
to that will enable you to receive all the latest news from the team

The second challenge was to obtain better radio gear that was used
during 3Y0E. The ZS8T team is proud to announce the following principal
sponsors to the ZS8T operation; these principal sponsors were strategic
in getting the hardware needed for ZS8T. Without these sponsors ZS8T
would never off made it out of the harbor...

to offset costs. Donations from kind individuals during 3Y0E, we are
pleased to announce some of that money helped offset the cost of
radio equipment now being used on Marion Island. It also greatly
assisted with shipping costs to South Africa. In addition, Marios
5B4WN, offered his awesome online log facility that has been used
with great success at VP6DX, TX5C etc. for ZS8T online log look-ups.

The team behind ZS8T would like to thank each and every organization
and individual that has contributed to date in making the operation a
full success.
Petrus, ZS6GCM, has also undergone extensive training and will be active
on the following bands 160, 80, 40, 30, 20, 17, 12 and 10 meters. He will
be active on the following modes: SSB, CW and RTTY. A detailed timetable
with frequencies and modes will be made available closer to the QRV date.
Petrus will also be communicating with Rhy, ZS6DXB, on a regular basis, and
you can expect regular updates with photos and even the possibility of
videos from the Island as the year progresses. ZS8T will be uploaded to
LOTW on completion of the operation.
