7P, LESOTHO. Belgium operators and members of the Radio Club Secunda
from South Africa are now active as 7P8FC from Katse Dam in Lesotho until

9X, RWANDA (Update). The 9X0R operation is now QRT. The multi-national
DXpedition team made just under 63k QSOs: +31k/CW, +26k/SSB and 4.9k/RTTY.

A3, Tonga. Paul, A35RK, informs OPDX that he has a nice opening to North
America on 17 meters during his morning (2030-2130Z)...coast-to-coast.
However, he also said, ".. the pile-up was totally unruly: calling out of
turn, tuning on frequency, kibitzing, frequency cops, etc. It was no fun
for me, and if that sort of bad behavior continues, I'll simply QRT. I
don't need any more U.S. QSL cards."

AO8, CANARY ISLANDS. Operators Siggi/TF3CW, Jorma/OH2KI, Ville/OH2MM,

from BU2AQ's QTH as BP0P during the CQ WW WPX SSB Contest (March 29-30th)

CQ NEWS..............
Richard Moseson, W2VU, Editor for CQ Amateur Radio, sent out the
following press release on March 24th: "Online CQ Magazine Archive
Complete; Issues from 1945-2006 Posted on HamCall.net -- CQ Communica-
tions, Inc. of Hicksville, New York, publisher of CQ Amateur Radio
magazine, and Buckmaster Publishing of Mineral, Virginia, jointly
announce that Buckmaster's searchable online archive of CQ magazine back
issues, dating back to the magazine's first issue in January 1945, is
now complete. The searchable archive may be accessed via the internet at
http://hamcall.net/cq or via a one-click link from the CQ website at
http://www.cq-amateur-radio.com.
All issues through early 2006 are now online, according to Buckmaster
President Jack Speer, N1BIC. By agreement with CQ, issues are not posted
until two years after their publication dates, as paper copies are still
available from the CQ bookstore. Newer issues will be posted as the two-
year 'window' expires.
Buckmaster, which produces the 'HamCall' CD and website, and has for
decades filmed back issues of CQ onto microfiche for use by researchers
and hobbyists alike, has applied its advanced scanning and searching
technology for online posting of documents to back issues of CQ. It has
taken nearly four years to get all back issues scanned and posted. Pages
are available to users as either low-resolution or high-resolution JPEG
image files, or as PDF files, which are more 'printer-friendly' than the
JPEGs.
'One of the great benefits to this approach is Buckmaster's very
powerful search engine,' which indexes every word on every page, notes
CQ Publisher Dick Ross, K2MGA. 'It is far better than anything we could
put onto a CD.' Ross also noted that most readers looking for back issues
are seeking a specific article and don't necessarily want to spend the
money for a set of CDs, 'an amount which can really add up if you want
access to nearly 65 years worth of magazines.'
On the HamCall archive site, pricing is based on the length of time
for which the user wants access. Searches are free, as is access to the
first ten pages of each issue, assuring that the table of contents page
will always be accessible. Archive subscription pricing is as follows:

* 1-day "test drive": 5 USDs (same as the cost for ordering a reprint
of a single article from CQ)
* 3 months: 20 USDs

Richard Moseson, W2VU, Editor for CQ Amateur Radio, sent out the following
press release on March 26th: "Update: Kosova (Kosovo) added to CQ WW DX
Contest / CQ DX Marathon Lists -- The Worked All Europe (WAE) award
committee of the Deutsche Amateur Radio Club (DARC) has voted to add
Kosova (Kosovo) to the WAE country list. The CQ World Wide DX Contests
and the CQ DX Marathon both use a combination of the DXCC and WAE lists
as the basis for their country lists. Therefore, Kosova will now be
considered a separate entity for both the CQ DX Marathon (effective
February 17, 2008) and for the CQ WW DX Contests, beginning with the CQWW
RTTY DX Contest on September 27-28, 2008.
CQ previously announced that it was accepting Kosova as a separate
entity for award credit, as of February 17, 2008."

CT6, PORTUGAL. Members of the Contest Team CT6P will be active during
the CQ WW WPX SSB Contest (March 29-30th) as a Multi-Single from Vila
Nova de Cerveira. Operators will be: CT1DWT, CT1GGO, CT1HIX, CT2HKN,

CY0, SABLE ISLAND (Update). The 6 meter DXpedition to Sable Island
scheduled to take place during the summer (June 25th through July 7th)

Operators Pete/VE3IKV, Dick/K5AND and Chris/W3CMP will be active on CW
and SSB. The fixed 6m station (in FN93) will use the callsign CY0X.
They will be transmitting on 50.117 MHz. The team requests, "Please do
NOT send your grid square as it consumes valuable time during an opening."
They will also try and activate rare grid GN03 if there is a solid opening,
using a portable station with a 5 element M2 6M5X yagi with the callsign
CY0RA. The team will also plan on being on HF on 20 meters and 40 meters,
CW and SSB - but the HF operation will always take lower priority over the
6 meter operation. HF antennas will be elevated monoband ground-plane
verticals for each band, and the IOTA island designator is NA-063. The
special callsign CY0X commemorates the 225th anniversary of the 1783

HQ2, HONDURAS. Operator Dan, HR2DMR, will be active as HQ2W during the
CQ WW WPX SSB Contest (March 29-30th) as a Single-Op/All-Band/High-Power

EU-120. Chris, M0DOL, had to cancel his April 5th trip to Holy Island
due to ill health.

KH3, JOHNSTON ISLAND. OPDX readers have been asking about Susan, W7KFI,
and her trip to KH3. Well, Susan in Kee'hi Lagoon, Honolulu, and told your
editor the trip is still on, but she is currently saving money to replace
an engine (as she put it....it has died a horrible death) for her boat.
She states, "Just as soon as I get it replaced I am off to KH3 -- should
be in about two months, I hope..... I will make the trip... it has been
in the planning for over 25 years." If you would like to help out Susan

Susan told your editor that she has ordered a PSK31 unit to use as she
visits various atolls in the South Pacific. This will allow her to operate
most modes. She can do Pactor upon request. Susan states that she listens
to 6 meters, but has never heard anything except local Honolulu beacon.
Also, she will be giving out as many grid squares as possible during her
passages.

KL5, ALASKA. Members of the Alaska DX Club will be active as KL5O during
the CQ WW WPX SSB Contest (March 29-30th) as a Multi-2/All-Band entry.

N5, UNITED STATES (Unusual DXpedition?). Members of the "Unusual Suspects"
2 meter group will be active as N5D during an HF DXpedition in a remote
area of the Texas Hill Country, May 16-17th. Working under field conditions,
their goal is to operate under harsh conditions on solar and generator
power with no more than 100 watts power and perform world wide contacts.
The group will be providing QSOs on 160/80/40/20/17/15/12 meters with a
goal of making over 5,000 contacts world-wide during the two day period.
They will be operating primary SSB but will be doing PSK on 40 and 20

P2, PAPUA NEW GUINEA. David, P29GQ, can usually be found on the Pacific
ANZA Net on 14183 kHz between 0500-0600z on the weekends. QSL via P29GQ

S9, SAO TOME AND PRINCIPE (AF-023). Luciano, CT1HHP, is now active as
S92FM until April 2nd. Activity will be mainly on digital modes. Also,
look for him on 60 meters (check 5346.5 and 5403.5 kHz). He accepts

SILENT KEY. It was reported that QSL Manager Graham Ridgeway, M5AAV,
became a "Silent Key" on March 25th. Graham was a very efficient QSL
Manager and well respected around the world. OPDX and its readers
would like to send out our deepest sympathy to Graham's family and
friends.

SPDX CONTEST (Date Correction). Tony, SP8AJK (SP75N), informs OPDX that
he provided the wrong dates for the 2008 SP DX Contest. Dates should be

T2, TUVALU. Paul, A35RK, talked to Udo, DL9HCU, who is currently active
as 3D2HC in the Fiji Islands for about another two weeks and was told
Udo will be heading to Tuvalu after his Fiji stay.

T4, CUBA. Operators Mary/CO2EE, Oscar/CO2OJ, George/CO2II, Winty/CO2WF,
Bob/CM2KL and Osmany/CM2OY will be active as T49C during the CQ WW WPX
SSB Contest (March 29-30th) as a Multi-2 entry. QSL only via K8SIX.

TC7, TURKEY. Operators Hudaverdi/TA7OM, Ayhan/TA7N, Mustafa/TA2MW and
possibly others will be active as TC7KA during the CQ WW WPX SSB Contest
(March 29-30th) as a Multi-Single entry. QSL via TA7KA.

TG0, GUATEMALA. Juan, TG9AJR, will be active as TG0WPX during the CQ WW
WPX SSB Contest (March 29-30th). QSL direct via TG9AJR or LoTW.

TO6, GUADELOUPE (NA-102). Operators Micheal/F6GWV and Gildas/F6HMQ will
be active as TO6T between March 28th and April 8th. QSL via F6HMQ.

V3, BELIZE. Eddie, K5WQG, a FISTS member, is now active as V31MR from
Placencia until April 3rd. He plans to operate almost around the clock
on CW and RTTY. There is a report that he may also be in the CQ WW WPX
SSB Contest. QSL via N5ET. Look for logs to be put on LoTW.

V7, MARSHALL ISLANDS. Operators Rick/AI5P (V73PX), Randy/N5LE (V73RY)
and Neil/WD8CRT (V73NS) are currently the most active hams on Kwajalein.
However, Rick/V73PX is scheduled to leave April 5th, Randy/V73RY on May
5th and Neil/V73NS in 2009. Look for Rick on 80/40/20/15/10 meters
CW/SSB. Randy can be found mostly on 40/20 meters SSB /RTTY. Neil is
usually on CW mostly on 40/20 meters. According to Paul, A35RK, who
talked to Randy recently and reported that "there are a number of licensed
operators there, but not many are very interested in using the club
station. In fact, Randy says that the club station (V73AS) may have to
shut down due to the increase in the electric utility bill which is
now over 200 USDs/month. Negotiations with military command to reduce
the bill, are in progress."

W6BA EXHIBITION. Cindy Bernard, granddaughter of William "Bill" Adams,
W6BA, is working on an exhibition/archive of QSL cards of her late
grandfather. Bill was a dedicated DXer and held many early awards in
the field, operating as 6ANN '24, U6ANN '25, NU6ANN '26, W6ANN '27-77?
and W6BA 77?-99. Although some cards were lost when he became a "Silent
Key" (SK) in 1999, Cindy has about 4000 international and 2000 U.S. cards
dating from 1923-1997. Although she has many cards that he received,
Cindy would like to also include QSLs that he sent. She is looking for
QSL cards (the originals, copies or scans) sent by him to other hams.

WARD Award 2008 (World Amateur Radio Day 2006 Award). The WARD Award is
designed to commemorate the World Amateur Radio Day celebrated by IARU
on April 18th each year. It is issued by the MK QTC, Polish Radio Amateur's
Journal, with the support of PZK, Polish Amateur Radio Union. The WARD
will be granted for at least the following numbers of contacts: either
10 QSOs on the HF bands, or either 10 QSOs on the VHF bands. All contacts
must be made between 0000-2400z on April 18th. Send a standard application
form (GCR List - log extract), including the list of QSOs, on or before May

YK9, SYRIA. Operators are Roger/G3SXW, Nigel/G3TXF, Fred/G4BWP, Lionel/
G5LP and Rob/GM3YTS will be active as YK9G in Damascus from April 9-15th.
The team plans to have two stations + amplifiers on the air full-time,
but CW only. They will have antennas for nine bands 160-10 meters, but
most openings will be on 40-17 meters. They will transmit on frequencies
ending in "3" and always listening split, up 1-2+ kHz. According to the
DX Magazine Survey, YK is the 18th "Most Wanted Country" in W6-7 land,
so they will maximize their brief openings. However, Damascus is partly

ZS8, MARION ISLANDS. Rhynhardt, ZS6DXB, ZS8T Press Officer, announced on
March 26th, that Petrus, ZS6GCM, is onboard the SA Agulhas (South Africa's
polar research vessel). The vessel will be going straight to Marion Island.
Depending on weather, Petrus could be on Marion in as short as five days.
However, should the weather deteoriate, there is a fair chance landing on

Moments before Petrus boarded the Agulhas, he managed to send some images
from Table Bay. Prior to these pictures all radio equipment had been safely
loaded with only a few items still to go onboard. These images can be viewed

Rhynhardt would like to remind everyone that once Petrus is on ZS8, it
will take approx. three to four weeks before any radio equipment is used.
This is due to a changeover time in working patterns and general settling
in on the island.
