4U1VIC, AUSTRIA. The Vienna International Centre Amateur Radio Club
(4U1VIC) will be on the air during the Worked All Europe DX Contest
(WAEDC), September 13-14th. This will be a SSB only operation. The
station is located in the secured United Nation campus in Vienna, Austria,
and due to access restrictions, they will not be able to operate the full
48 hours continuously. They will try to be on the air as much as possible.
Operators mentioned a OE1AWB, OE3BLB, OE1RKS, OE1DWC, OE3SGU and OE3GCU.
4U1VIC will send QSL cards for all QSOs via bureau. If you are in a hurry
you can send it direct including SAE and return postage to: AMATEUR RADIO

7X, ALGERIA. Mirek 9V1XE/VK2DXI/SP5IXI, is once again active as 7X0DX
until September 11t. Activity will be limited to his spare time because
this is a business trip. This time Mirek has difficult conditions to
build effective antennas but will try to be active if only possible.
QSNs show Mirek has been on 40/30/20 meters CW at various times. QSL

The online log available on the above Web page includes data from his
previous operations. QSO data from the current activity will be uploaded
after this activity is over. Mirek has no chance to send his QSO data on
a daily basis at this time as his internet access in 7X is very limited.

A3, TONGA. Paul, A35RK, informs OPDX that he will try to be active as
much as possible until he takes his antennas down around October 20th
before heading to stateside at the end of that month. He will return to
Tonga during the first week of December. However, he states that he will
probably not be back on the air until Christmas, weather permitting.
He also mentions that Tonga is having some very unusual weather events
lately, and these events are effecting a broad area of the South Pacific.
Tonga is also enduring gale force winds at the moment, all due to an
enormous (1040mb) high pressure system NE of New Zealand. Paul states,
"The Kiwi weatherfolks say that they have never seen such an intense
high in this region, and the immediate forecast is for more 'dirty'
weather. High winds...cyclones...are expected in our region from late
November until March or April. But this is unusual. At the moment, I
can't turn my beam where I want to because I have to point it in whatever
direction reduces the windload on the antenna/mast. Consequently, I'm as
much at the mercy of the wind as of the propagation conditions....and I
haven't been able to work hardly anyone in the last few days.... I have
received many requests for digital skeds lately...especially from Europe...
but I'm afraid that I can't accomodate them. We'll just have to wait
and see what the bands and weather conditions will allow." QSL via W7TSQ.
ADDED NOTE: Paul is currently thinking about being active from a few
different islands on his return back from the states. Travel arrangements
are not finalized at this time, but stay tuned.

CN, MOROCCO. Operators IK2QEI, IK1SPR, IK1RQT, IK1HXN, IV3ZXQ and CN8WW
will be active as CN3A during the CQ WW DX RTTY Contest (September 27-28th)
as a Multi-Single entry. QSL via LoTW or via I2WIJ.

CQ MAGAZINE PRESS RELEASE. Richard Moseson (W2VU), CQ Editor, reports
on September 3rd: "Brittany Decker, KB1OGL, has been named Youth Editor
of CQ Amateur Radio magazine, Editor Rich Moseson, W2VU, announced today.
Decker, of Hudson, New Hampshire, is 14 years old, has a General Class
license, and already holds an amateur radio leadership position as
Assistant Section Manager for Youth in the ARRL New Hampshire Section.
She wrote the article, 'Saving the Hobby for KG7HF,' about her introduction
to amateur radio, that appeared in the April 2008, issue of CQ. Another
article, 'A Rookie's Guide to Contesting,' will be published in the October
issue.
'CQ's ongoing participation in the Newsline Young Ham of the Year award
program has shown me that there are many young hams out there doing all
sorts of wonderful things,' explained Moseson, 'and I realized that we
need to showcase some of their achievements on a regular basis. But we
want this new column to be for young hams as well as about young hams,
and we want to keep it in their own voices as much as possible.'
Decker commented on her plans for the column: 'Writing the column is
a great way to get young radio operators pumped about getting their
licenses and staying in the hobby. For me, it has been such a rewarding
hobby, and has allowed me to explore many of my interests that could lead
to possible careers. Over the past three years, I've had so much fun with
amateur radio, and I would love to get other youth to experience the hobby
that has given so much to me. I want kids like me to know that if they get
their licenses and stay active, they won't regret it.'
CQ's youth column will appear quarterly and is scheduled to debut in

D2, ANGOLA. Father Gabriele, D2EB, is back in Angola after five years.
Activity will be on the HF bands and 6 meters using CW and SSB. He was
active this past week on 20 meters (14052 and 14222 kHz) after 2030z.

DXCC NEWS. Bill Moore, NC1L, ARRL Awards Branch Manager, reports on
September 3rd: "DXCC Annual List Clarification -- Since the DXCC Annual
List has not been published in print for many years a point of clarifica-
tion may be needed to help explain how the list works...
As was the case when it was published there were certain requirements
that needed to be met in order to make the list. Including:
* Anyone 'Current' on the DXCC Honor Roll for the period are automatically
listed. (On the Honor Roll modes achieved, only)

* A submission must have been made during the period.

* During the period your number on an active award must have
increased by, at least, one point.

eg: If in 2006 you had 225 on 160 Meters and in a 2007 submission
you did not increase this number by, at least, one point, the 160 Meter
Award will not appear in the yearbook. However, if your 160 Meter Award
went from 225 in 2006 to 229 in 2007, your callsign will appear.

The DXCC Annual List reflects 'Activity'"

EA6, BALEARIC ISLANDS (EU-004). Adrian, AA5UK, will be active as EA6/AA5UK
from Ibiza (JM09tb), October 15-29th. Activity will be holiday style on
160-10 meters using mostly SSB, RTTY, PSK31, SSTV, JT65A and WSPR. Look
for satellite activity on AO51. He will also be active during CQ WW DX
SSB Contest (October 25-26th). QSL via his home callsign, by the bureau,

FG, GUADELOUPE. Dom, F6EPO, will be active as FG/F6EPO from September
7-27th. Activity will be QRP on 40/30/20/15 meters CW using K1 radio.
His suggested frequencies a 7007, 10111, 14014 and 21021 kHz. Dom
also plans to operate from Volcan Soufriere between September 13-20th,
only during the evenings using a K1 radio and vertical. QSL via F6EPO.

FJ, ST. BARTHELEMY. A stateside team will be active as TO5DX from October
16-28th. Their activities will include the CQ WW DX SSB Contest (October

FT5Y, ANTARCTICA. Nicolas, F4EGX, is expected to be active as FT5YI from
the French scientific station "Dumont D' Urville" during his free time
between November to mid-December. He states that he is on a "professional
mission". Nicolas will use a FT857D w/ATU LDG Z-100 into a fishing rod

EU-049. Members of a SV-DX-Group will be active as SY8L from Limnos
Island (LH-1740) in Northern Aaegaeis until September 15th.
Activity will be on 160-6 meters using all modes. QSL via

EU-110. Operators Jan/OK1JK, Jiri/OK1JST, Jarda/OK1JIM, Standa/OK1AGE,
Tom/OK1JRA, Vojta/OK1JKV and Radek/OK1MRK are active from
Porer Island (ACIA 46, CIA-35, IOCA CI-090, MIA MC-313) as
9A/homecall between now and September 13th. Activity will be
on most HF bands, using CW, SSB, RTTY, PSK. Other references

EU-125. Tom, DL4VM, is expected to be active as OZ/DL4VM from Romo
Island (NS-001 for the Danish Islands Award) between now and
September 20th. Activity will be QRP only (5 watts) and only
CW on 40/20/15 meters and perhaps 10 and 6 meters depending

SA-078. Two members of Grupo RASE DX, Paco/EA7ATX and Juan-Luis/EA7AY,
are currently in Colombia for the next few weeks. Their plans

JT, MONGOLIA. Andrei, UA3ABR, will be active as JT1CA between September
26th and October 2nd. QSL via his home callsign.

JW, SVALBARD. Tom, LA4LN, will be active from Spitsbergen Island (EU-026,
WLOTA LH-0124), September 12-18th. He will operate as JW4LN on 160 meters
through 70 cm, mostly on CW with some SSB, digital modes and possibly
the satellites. He will also sign JW1V on 60 meters. Tom will be using
an IC-7000, with various wires, and a beam antenna for 20/15/10 meters
and possibly 6 meters and for the satellites. QSL direct only to LA4LN.

K4, UNITED STATES (Special Event). Members of the Pentagon Amateur Radio
Club (PARC) will activate special event station K4AF on Thursday, September
11th. Activity is to commemorate the 7th anniversary of the attacks that
occurred on the Pentagon, the World Trade Center and over Pennsylvania
in 2001. Activity will be on 80/40/20/15/10 meters using CW and SSB.
This will be a 12 hour operation between 1200-2400z. A special QSL card

KP2, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS. John "Doc", K3MD, will be active as KP2/K3MD
from St.John's, February 19-24th. His activity will include the ARRL DX
CW Contest (February 21-22nd) as Single-Op/All-Band/High-Power entry.
(He placed 9th in the world in 2008.) Doc informs OPDX that the cabin he
rents (overlooks east and west at 1000 feet) is a straight shot to U.S.
He will be using an IC-7000 (w/ALS-500M/PS-75) into an all band 80-10m
trap dipole up 50 feet and a 160 meter inverted L. Outside of contest
he will operate casually, usually working Europe on 20 and 40 meters.

KH6, HAWAII. Scott, NE1RD, informs OPDX that he will be on Kauai operating
as KH6/NE1RD for CW WW DX CW Contest (November 29-30th) as a "100 Pound
DXpedition". He will be a Single-Op/All-Band/Low-Power entry. Expect pre-
contest operations on CW and SSB from both Kauai Island (OC-019, USI
HI-003S, WLOTA LH-1761, Kauai County) and Oahu Island (OC-019, USI HI-008S,
WLOTA LH-1227, Honolulu County) in the 10 days prior to the contest. QSL

KP4, PUERTO RICO. Joachim, KP4EE, is planning to be active during the CQ
World Wide CW DX Contest (November 29-30th) as Single-Op/All-Band entry.

OD, LEBANON. Syl, F5TLN, will be active as OD5/F5TLN from southern part
of Lebanon between October and February 2009. Activity will be on all HF

OH0, ALAND ISLAND. Tomi, OH6EI, will be active as OH0Z between September

PJ2, NETHERLANDS ANTILLES. You just have a few more days to work NODXA
member Goose, W8AV, who is on the Island of Curacao (SA-006, WLOTA
LH-0942) from the PJ2T Signal Point station signing PJ2/W8AV. He is
expected to go QRT September 10th. This is an antenna maintenance trip,
so he will only be on the air as time permits, and his operating times
may be somewhat limited. Activity will be on CW and RTTY (he will try
to emphasize RTTY on this trip). Most of his activity has been on 40/30/20
meters, usually in the morning starting around 1100z for about an hour
and then again after 1800z, as late as 0145z. LAST MINUTE UPDATE: Goose
informs OPDX: "I have been encountering some problems getting the RTTY
stuff to work down here which is why I have not been active on that mode.
With all the antenna work to do it has become a lower priority to get it
working. I will do what I can between now and Tuesday to try to get things
fixed. If I do not succeed, I will continue to operate on CW."

PZ, SURINAME. Yuri, VE3DZ, will be active as PZ5TT between November 25th
and December 1st. His activity includes the CQ WW CW DX Contest (November
29-30th) as a Single-Op/All-Band/(possibly) High-Power entry. Outside of
the contest Yuri will be on all bands using CW, SSB and RTTY. QSL via

FH1LE QSL STATUS. Alan, F6BFH, reports that all direct requests for
the FH1LE activity have been sent out.

Ralph, K2PF, informs that new one letter suffix callsigns can be used
in Bosnia-Herzegovina as of September 1st. He will be handling cards
for the following:
E70A - formally T95A and currently operating as J28OO
E73U - formally T94DJ and E74DX
E73M - formally E73MMM and T93M (or QSL via E73Y)

QSL Manager Ron, AC7DX, reports: "The QSL card for KL7DX (NA-234) is
in the final design stage and then it will be printed. Please be patient
as the folding color card will be certainly worth the wait."

OLD QSL COLLECTION (Update). Jean Michel, F6AJA, wants to remind everyone
to visit the Les Nouvelles DX (LNDX) Web page to see more than 5700 old
QSL cards in several different albums/galleries. This site contains:
- The ten most wanted DXCC entities (2004 to 2007) with more than
200 QSLs
- At least one card for each 58 deleted DXCC countries (more than

NEW QSL MANAGER. Buzz, NI5DX, is now the QSL Manager for Jeff, YI9NIC.

S79, SEYCHELLES. Tom, DJ6TF, will be active as S79TF while on holiday

especially on the first kilocycles of the bands. Tom reportedly will be
using a FT-890 and a vertical antenna.

SPECIAL EVENT. The Anaheim Police ARC will operate special event station
K6P in remembrance of "POW-MIA Recognition Day", September 18-21st.
Suggested operating frequencies a SSB - 21350, 18150, 14253, 7250 kHz,
and PSK-31 and RTTY on the appropiated frequencies. Receive a pictured QSL

T2, TUVALU. Anci/JA2ZL and his XYL will be visiting Tuvalu (OC-015) for
a family vacation between October 14-21st. Activity will be on 80-12(10)
meters using CW, SSB, RTTY and SSTV. He will use a small (500w) amplifier,
loop antennas and vertical antennas. Callsign will be issued after entering

T6, AFGHANISTAN. John, KE6GFF, will once again be active as T6EE from
metropolitan Kabul between October 5-31st. This will be a portable
set-up: FT-897d, YP3 Super Antenna and long shockcord element Buddipole.
Operations will be limited to 14200 kHz by license (+/-QRM). He states
that he will give particular attention to the Americas, Africa and Middle
East. John will also participate in the CQ WW DX SSB Contest (October

TC4, TURKEY. The Finnish-Turkish Friendship Consortium station, TC4X, will
be once more on the air during the WAE SSB Contest during the weekend of

TC470, TURKEY (Special Event). Members of the Turkish group called
TCSWAT (Special Wireless Activity Team) will activate the special station
TC470PDZ between September 24-30th. Activity is to celebrate the 470th
anniversary the Naval Victory during the Battle of Preveze. Look for the

TM0, FRANCE (Special Event). To celebrate the Charles de Gaulle memorial
opening festivities in Colombey les Deux Eglises, the Haute-Marne area
hams (Department 52) will be active as TM0CDG between September 28th and
October 12th. Activity will be on all HF bands, and possibly 6m, 2m and
UHF, using all modes including SSTV. A special QSL card will be sent for
each QSO via the QSL Bureau.

TM1, FRANCE (Special Event). Look for the special event callsign TM1DKF
to be active between now and September 14th. Activity is to celebrate
the kite festival at Dieppe. No QSL info or bands/modes of activity was
provided.

TY, BENIN. Serge, F6AML, (a member of the F6KOP team) will be active from
Cotonou between September 12-24th. Currently his callsign is unknown, but
he will pick-up his licence in Cotonou. Activity will be on 80-10 meters
using CW and SSB only; sorry this time, no digital. Suggested frequencies
are as follows (+/- QRM):
CW - 3525, 7025, 10115, 14025, 18071, 21025, 24892 and 28025
SSB - 3785, 7057, 14235, 18140, 21275, 24944 and 28444 kHz
Serge will use a FT-857D w/amp (800w) into a HF6V and inverted V for 80m.
QSL via his home callsign, by the bureau or direct with SAE + 2 USDs or
1 IRC.

VK9, WILLIS ISLAND. Chris, DL1MGB/VK9DWX, sent out the following press
release: "Young DXpeditioners On Willis" -- "The crew of VK9DWX wants
to invite two young hams who have a passion for Ham Radio, DXing and
contesting to take part in the DXpedition to Willis Island in October
this year. One young ham from 6th October till 19th October and the
other one from 15th October till 28th October.
You can reside in any country in the world, hold a valid amateur radio
license in your country, have some experience in working pile-ups, and
are between 18 and 29.
For qualification you have to send an email to which
must include an essay of 500 words minimum (in English) describing how
you got started in ham radio, who your Elmer was and why you should be
selected for this DXpedition opportunity. Please also include your full
name, callsign and home address.
The VK9DWX crew will pay for all expenses except your flight from your
home to Cairns, Queensland, Australia.

VP5, TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS. Operators Frank/WA2VYA, Tony/W2WAS, Ken/K2WB
and John/N2VW will be active as VP5T during the CQWW DX SSB Contest (October
25-26th) as a Multi/Multi/Dxpedition entry. QSL VP5T via LoTW, or via N2VW
(by the Bureau or direct). Their activity will be from Providenciales
(NA-002). Look for CW and operations on the WARC bands and 60 meters before
and after the contest. Operators will sign using VP5/homecall. QSL to their
home callsigns. No eQSLS. SWL QSLs are OK.

WP3, PUERTO RICO (NA-099). Alfredo, WP3C, will be active in the CQWW DX
RTTY Contest (September 27-28th) as a Single-Op/Single-Band (40m) entry.
His activity will also count for the WLOTA as LH-2802. QSL via W3HNK,

Z3, MACEDONIA. Operators Z31MM, Z32ID, Z35T, Z35X, Z36N, Z36W and possibly
others will be active as Z37M during the CQ WW DX RTTY Contest (September
27-28th) as a Multi-? entry. QSL via Z37M by the Bureau.

ZK3, TOKELAU. By the time you read this, Willi/DJ7RJ and Uli/DL2AH should
be on the air from here as ZK3MW and possibly ZK3AH, respectively, through
September 29th. Willi will operate mainly CW on 160-10 meters with an
emphasis on the lower bands, while Uli operates SSB on 40-10 meters. QSL
via their home callsigns.
