Tim shares his ham radio journey, beginning with his Quaker Oats crystal set, through his early entry into ham radio as a twelve year old, to a career in cellular telephony and wireless, and culminating in his position as COO of DX Engineering, one of the premier suppliers of ham radio gear. First Rig: Johnson Adventurer transmitter, Heathkit HR-10B receiver Randy Thompson, K5ZD - met Tim at the FCC office in 1972. They are still good friends. Education: BSEE, Penn State University Favorite Rig: Icom IC-7850 - outstanding receiver performance, ideal for a multi-user contest station. Favorite operating mode: CW, never lost the love for Morse Code. First Contest in "Multi-multi" station: W3AU station operated by Bob Cox, K3EST. Tim was 17. Multi Multi Contest Station - multiple operators with multiple transmitters, up to six transmitters on the air at the same time. K3LR is Tim's "mulit-multi" amateur radio contest station with two operating positions on each band. Up to six transmitters can be on the air simultaneously. Two man teams on each band. One calls CQ, the other listens for CQs. Transmitters are interlocked so that they can not transmit at the same time.
