APDXC 2005. "DXers and Contesters are cordially invited to the Asia Pacific
DX Convention (APDXC), which will take place November 18-20th, 2005, as
the first Asian international DX event. In addition to the presentations
of recent DXpeditions, technical sessions, displays, etc. that you find
at most large DX conventions, this convention offers something special
such as a tour to the Icom factory, a technical session led by the Icom
IC7800 design team, a tour to the electronics district, and more, since
it is being held in the country in which most of the amateur radio
equipment is developed. For the non-hams accompanying you, there will
be activities in which they can enjoy Japanese culture. Activities like
a tea ceremony and flower arranging are being prepared. We would appreciate
your introducing this convention to your DX/contest club members. See our
website for more details at: http://www.ja3.net/apdxc
For convention updates, please visit the Web site and send an E-mail to
subscribe to the APDXC newsletter. We look forward to welcoming you at
the APDXC in Osaka, Japan....." APDXC Committee / JA3USA

DX0, SPRATLY ISLAND. Operators Gil/4F2KWT, Ed/4F1OZ and Eddie/DU1EV were
expected to leave for Palawan Island this past Friday, March 18th and take
a plane (if available) the next day to Pag-Asa Island (in the Spratly
Island Group). Apparently, the plane was not available because no DX0K
signals were heard this past weekend. The team anticipates taking a ship
on March 25th, and will arrive on the island on March 27th. However, they
expect to leave the island by the end of March. These trips to the Spratly
are not commercial ships, and they have no control over the scheduling
because these are military transports. Since they are civilians, the
ride to Spratly is only on a space available basis. Eddie/DU1EV informed
OPDX that this operation will be a DXpedition and a medical mission at
the same time. Gil/4F1OZ is a doctor, Ed/4F2KWT is a nurse and Eddie/DU1EV
is a lawyer (he jokes.. just in case there is a malpractice suit). Activity
should be on 160-6 meters. Their special project this time will be 6 meters
EME during the moon rise and moon set using digital mode WJST. The team
will work with a six or seven element beam and 300 watts. QSL Manager is
4F2KWT: Gilbert Lappay, P.O. Box 89, 2500 San Fernando City, La Union,
Philippines. For online logs and more details/updates, please visit their
official Web sites at: http://www.geocities.com/f2kwt

E21, THAILAND. Champ, E21EIC, will be active in the CQ WW WPX SSB Contest
(March 26-27th) as a Single-Op/All-Band/Low-Power entry. QSL via E21EIC.
For JA stations QSL via JR5XPG.

FG, GUADELOUPE. Jean-Louis, F5NHJ, will be active as FG/F5NHJ/P from
March 25th to April 2nd. Activity will be on 40-20 meter CW/SSB. QSL via
his home callsign, either direct or by the bureau.

FT5X, KERGUELEN ISLAND. The Microlite Penguins DXpedition Team is now
active as about 0630z March 20th. The following was a press release sent
out by George, K5TR, dated Sunday, March 20th:
"Port Jeanne D'Arc, Kerguelen
The Microlite Penguins DXpedition Team will be QRV today on the Kerguelen
Islands, located in the sub-antarctic region of the Indian Ocean. The New
Zealand based R/V Braveheart, used during ZL9CI, VP8THU, VP8GEO, and VP6DI
expeditions, is again be supporting the team for the duration of this 30
day trip. Departure was from Durban, South Africa, and the end destination
is Fremantle, Western Australia. The team expects to be operational here
from the 20th of March through the 1st of April.

Callsign is FT5XO.

A team of twelve operators representing seven nations will be participating
in this month's long trip. Operators are AG9A, HB9ASZ, GI0NWG, M0DXR, N6MZ,
N0TT, SP5XVY, VE3EJ, VK6DXI, W3WL, W7EW and 9V1YC. All team members are
experienced contesters or DXpeditioners, and 7 out of the 12 are veterans
of at least one previous Antarctic regional DXpedition.

In order to maximize band openings, we will have the ability to run up
to 7 stations at once. Operations will take place on all bands from 160m-6m
using CW, SSB and RTTY. There will also be operation on PSK-31 and EME.

The team has two "Battle Creek Special" verticals for 40, 80 and 160m,
single 1/4 wave verticals each for 30m and 40m, plus a full set of monoband
vertical dipoles for 20m and up. All 1/4 wave verticals and vertical
dipoles were constructed and supplied in South Africa by ZS4TX.

Just like the 2002 DXpedition to South Georgia and South Sandwich, there
will be no websites, pilots, or on-line logs. We feel that a DX QSO
made by the hard work of knowing propagation, listening, skillful calling
and paying attention to the DX station's pattern is more meaningful and
fun. We have purposefully advanced minimal publicity about our DXpedition
in the spirit of putting the operator instead of the technology back into
the forefront of the DX chase.

Logisical support in South Africa was provided by ZS5BBO, ZS5NK, ZS5VE,
ZS5GMW, ZS5HV, ZS5IAN and the members of the H.A.R.C. Equipment and
logistic arrangements in New Zealand were provided by the crew of The
Braveheart,and ZL2BSJ.

The QSL manager for this DXpedition is Garry, VE3XN.
Many thanks in advance for any extra contributions received with your
QSL envelopes.

This DXpedition is funded by the twelve team members and an exclusive
grant from the NCDXF - The Northern California DX Foundation. There are
no other organizational or commercial sponsors for this trip..

Sincere thanks to the NCDXF for their continued support of
DXpeditioning to the world's most remote destinations."

OZ5, DENMARK (Special Activity/Event). Since the year 2000 the callsign
OZ5HCA has been used one week in April to mark the birthday of the world
famous fairy tale writer "Hans Christian Andersen". On the 2nd of April,
this year, he would have become 200 years old, and therefore, the callsign
OZ5HCA will be used during the entire month of April. The callsign will
be used by members of the EDR Odense Branch, OZ3FYN. The EDR Odense Branch
has been issuing the "Hans Christian Andersen Award" since the year 2000.
This year will be the last chance to make QSOs for this award because it
is the last time the callsign will be used. The rules can be found on the
Web page at: http://www.oz3fyn.dk/diplom-hcaGB.html
Aplications for the award must be received before December 31st, 2005. The
reason for the deadline is that each award is specially made and signed
by the mayor of Odense.

QSL INFO AND NEWS...................
3DA0 QSL CARDS. Frosty, K5LBU, has just returned from ZS and 3DA0 land.
He wants all DXers to know that there is no QSL Bureau in Swaziland.
He states, "Andy, 3DA0TM, does pick up the mail that shows up at the
post office box. I have here in my hand about half a kilo of cards. I
just brought them home to Houston, Texas. I will keep them and then
take them to the Friedrichshafen Germany hamfest in June. Most hams
that have operated in Swaziland do not live there. So you need to look
for the correct route and listen to what the operator says. There were
at least 25 cards for me as 3DA0CF in the box. I will reply to those
this week. I have sent the ones that were for 3DA0WPX and 3DA0SV on to
them in NC."

6O0CW QSL CONFUSION. Graham, M5AAV, informs OPDX that there seems to
be some confusion over the QSL routes for 6O0CW. Graham handles "BUREAU

to I2YSB.

QSL ROUTE CHANGE. Mike, KA2AEV, will now handle the 9Y4/N3BNA QSL duties
for Dales, N3BNA, due to health concerns. So please, QSL 9Y4/N3BNA via
KA2AEV direct. If you sent Dale a QSL request, Mike states, "Don't
sweat it. I'll get it eventually. Please be patient I do not have any
QSLs for him yet."

AY1ZA QSL. Following an agreement with Horacio, LU4DXU, a large batch
of outstanding AY1ZA direct cards for European stations has been sent
to and received by the Mediterraneo DX Club. These cards are being
posted right now and should reach their destinations in a few days
time. Horacio operated as AY1ZA from the "Orcadas del Sur" Base (LU-14

February 2004. QSL cards have been donated by the MDXC.
