I think we can work DX however we like. Whether one listens and tunes or
watches the cluster or gets on a DX net...one still has to have the skill
and station capabilities to actually "work the DX".

IMHO saying one way or the other is "real DX'ing" and the other ways are not
is really stupid and indicates to me someone needs to get a life.

I also know a DXer who has a very high country count using DX Nets ONLY
Is that DXing ?

Also know several DXers who do not return a QSL for any country they have
confirmed - Is that DXing ?

All this to stir the DX pot (NG) with some different views

Whatta ya think ?

Had one DXer exclaim -- the only difference between a DX Net and the
Packet clusters is when using the clusters -- ya still have to break the
pileup (;-)

I know DXers that never tune, never spot, just monitor the clusters and
let someone else do the hard work -- is that DXing ?

Just some thoughts

Before I was introduced to DX Cluster service I did the "old fashioned
way" of tune..tune..listen..listen. Yes it yielded results and I
snagged my share of "new ones". However once I got on DX cluster
service via 2M my country count literally skyrocketed -and- I was then
able to share the ones I found with other hams.

I prefer the "new old fashioned way" since I can share my findings with
other hams. IMHO using and contributing to the DX cluster is much more
in line with "True Ham Spirit" then the old fashioned way which does not
allow for sharing.

Then there are those that don't use the clusters at all, nor DX nets or
DX lists.

They do it the old fashioned way -- tune tune listen listen.

Who do you think works the DX first, and maybe puts it on the clusters
?

Just a few of my thoughts

Just a few of my thoughts...
Nowadays more and more people use webpage based dxclusters as as
source
of information. Recently i have swapped logging programs and it was
very hard to log myself into my usual cluster and had to use a
web-based cluster, indeed i couldnt react with the dxcluster at all,
just take the info spotted. I could post spots, but these went to
DXsummmit which is web based. Now i am a strong believer in
traditional
dxclusters, the guys that get these facilities up and running and keep
them ticking over sometimes deserve a medal. The cost of them
maintaining packetradio access is not as great as in years gone by but
the time and maintainance is still a concern. Not many people are
aware
of what is involved in keeping the cluster network running smoothly
and
preventing the abuse which can go on. Remember the websites that
provide you with a webpage of dx spots and announcements are getting
their information from the original dxcluster network.
So i say, wherever possible, support your local dxcluster by using
their facilities to the best advantage, its really all the
Cluster-sysops ask!

Kind regards and 73
Linda
