3D2, FIJI (Addition/Correction to OPDX.616). Paul, A35RK, informs OPDX
that Mike/KM9D (aka T21MY), Jan/KF4TUG (aka T2YL), himself, and his wife
Va'inga will be visiting with Jytte Jarl, 3D2AJ, and her husband Arnold,
at their home on Vanua Levu. They will be there from July 12-21st. Mike
and Jan, who have been sailing around the Pacific the last two years, may
stay longer on Fiji. Anyway, Paul states he will be active, on a casual
basis, from Vanua Levu, using his Fiji callsign, 3D2RK. This is a holiday
for them, not a DXpedition operation, but there will be equipment and
antennas available to them. Mike and Jan may also be active from the
same QTH, but Paul doesn't know their callsigns yet. QSL 3D2RK via W7TSQ.

3DA, SWAZILAND. Rad/ZS6RAD, Ron/ZS5ABD, Cliff/ZS6BOX and Willie/ZS5WI
will be operating from Swaziland from July 29th to August 3rd. They have
been granted the callsign 3DA0DX by the Swaziland authorities. They will
be joined by Willy/3DA0BD and Andy/3DA0TM. Activity will be on most bands
from 160 meters through to UHF as time and conditions dictate. They will
be using Phone, CW, WSJT, Slow Scan and RTTY from 0300-0700z and from
1400-2200z daily. QSL via the bureau or direct to ZS5WI: PO Box 1064,
Eshowe, 3815, KZN, South Africa (Enclose a SAE, and it will be appreciated
if the cost of postage can be covered as they have not secured any
sponsorship).

40 METERS TO CHANGE! The following was announced on the ARRL Web site this
past week:
"Radio History is Made at WRC-03 with 7-MHz Realignment Compromise (July 3,
2003) -- There's good news from World Radiocommunication Conference 2003
(WRC-03) for 40-meter enthusiasts. In an 11th-hour compromise, delegates to
WRC-03, which wraps up officially July 4, agreed to move broadcasters out of
7100 to 7200 kHz in Regions 1 and 3 to make room for the Amateur Service.
The agreement eventually will mean a 200-kHz worldwide allocation at 40
meters. Although the change does not go into effect until 2009, that's
considered speedy in International Telecommunication Union (ITU) terms.
Some of the timelines proposed during discussions on the 7 MHz agenda item
would have held off the changes until 2033! The WRC-03 action on 7 MHz makes
no change in the exclusive US 40-meter allocation. US amateurs will continue
to enjoy the full 7000 to 7300 kHz band they now have."

60 METERS IS UP AND ACTIVE! Martin, W9XN/8, reports that the 1st
Continental U.S. QSO on 60 meters took place at on 5403.5 kHz at 0400z,
on July 3rd. QSO was between W9XN/8 (Martin) in Westover, W.V. and N0FW
(Pete) in Cincinnati (Hamilton), OH. RS reports were 59 both ways. Martin
states that he used a TS-430S and 60 Meter Tri-Pole.

7P, LESOTHO (Update to OPDX.612). The July 18-25th 7P8 DXpedition by the
Lone Star DX Association and the Texas DX Society has added two additional
operators to its team. Noted Texas contester Larry Alkoff, N2LA, and his
XYL Karen, K2DXV, of Austin have joined the U.S.-Canada team of K5LBU/7P8CF,
W0IZ/7P8IZ, K4SV/7P8DA, W5MJ/7P8MJ, VA7DX/7P8NK and WW5L/7P8TA that will
be on an all bands, all modes operation from Mohale's Hoek, Lesotho. The
Alkoffs have requested the callsign 7P8LA and 7P8KA. The Alkoffs are members
of the Central Texas DX and Contest Club in Austin. A online Web site and

9A, CROATIA. Operators 9A1A, 9A7A, 9A3B, 9A4D, 9A5D and 9A7D will be
active as 9A0HQ in the IARU HF World Championship (July 12-13th). Activity
will be on all bands and modes. QSL via 9A1A (automatically via the bureau
for all contacts).

C6, BAHAMAS. Steve/AK0M and his wife Sandy (callsign not provided) will
be active as C6ASB and C6ASC, repectively, on Abaco Island (NA-080) from
July 22-30th. Steve informs OPDX that this trip is primarily a family
vacation, and he will be on the air as time permits. However, he does
mention he will do some participation in the RSGB IOTA Contest (July
26-27th) as a Single-Op. Steve states this operation will be low key,
100 watts (IC-706) and QRP (FT-817) to a vertical from N4JQQ's old QTH,
and a Buddipole from the beach. CW is his preferred mode, but there may
be some SSB, and maybe PSK31. QSL via his home callsign, AK0M.

CP1, BOLIVIA (Special Activity/Contest). Look for Radio Club La Paz's
official club station, CP1AA, to be on the air along with some other CP1
stations July 19th. Stations will be calling: CQ OH! LINDA LA PAZ TEST.
A nice diploma will be awarded and a QSL confirming the contact. All
amateur stations can participate. Their band/mode schedule are as follows:

DA0, GERMANY. Look for 55 operators from DARC to activate the callsign
DA0HQ in the IARU Contest. QSL via DL5AXX.

HB9, SWITZERLAND. Operators HB9CVN, HB9DOS, HB9DQP, HB9FAE, HB9FBL, HB9FBM,
HB9DOM, HB9YC, HB9ALM and HB9BZM will be active during the IARU Contest
using the callsign HB9A. Activity will be on all bands and modes.

IOTA NEWS......................
AF-046. A team of operators will headed to Desertas Island, Madeira
Islands, between July 23-27th. The main purpose of this trip
is to mount a VHF repeater on this island, which will enlarge
the VHF communications between all the islands in the Madeira
Archiplego. Activity will be on SSB, CW and RTTY, on 80/40/20/
17/15/12/10/6 meters. They will try to use the IOTA frequencies
and also enter in the RSGB IOTA Contest. Callsigns will be CT9D
and CT9M for RTTY. Operators a CT3BD, CT3DL, CT3EE, CT3IA,
CT3EN, CT3IQ, CT3KY, CT3KU and DF4SA. QSL via CS3MAD: Associacao
de Radioamadores da Regiao da Madeira, P.O.Box 4694,
9000 Funchal, Ilha da Madeira, Portugal.

AS-NEW. Operators Kim/HL1OYF, Phil/HL1TXQ, Park/HL1EJT, Han/HL1VAU,
Kim/HL3QP, Butch/HL9DX, Jeon/DS1EVQ, Cho/DS1KOQ, Jeon/DS3BGI,
and Ryu/DS4NYE (ed. This list of operators MAY change!) will
be active between July 17-20th from Chuk Island (a new IOTA in
the Kangwon-Do Province group). They will sign homecall/2. Due
to the island being a military defense zone, operation will
only take place during the daytime hours. The daily schedule
will be as follows: Daily operation will start at 2030z and
daily withdraw from island will be at 1000z. Since their time
is limited, PLEASE DO NOT DUPLICATE QSOs. Activity will take
place around the usual IOTA frequencies and DX windows. QSL
direct only to Kim, HL1OYF: P.O.Box 54 Dong-jak, 156-600 Seoul,
South Korea.

EU-016. Roger, 9A/ON4TX, will activate the Island of Prezba (CI-092)
from July 13-27th. No bands or modes of activity were provided.

EU-129. Look for German operators DH1LA, DH2AX, DH7NO, DL2RTK, DL2SWW,
DL2VFR, DL6ATM and possibly others to participate in the IOTA
Contest (July 26-27th) as DL0KWH from Peenemuende, Usedom Island.
They will be active 2-3 days before the contest and will operate
using their individual callsigns on CW, SSB, RTTY and PSK. QSL
via the Bureau.

EU-136. Operators 9A2EU, 9A3SM, 9A4KJ and 9A5MR will be active as 9A7T/p
from Trstenik Island in the RSGB IOTA Contest (July 26-27th) as
a Multi-Single Low Power Island Expedition entry. QSL via 9A2EU.

EU-145. Operators CT1AGF, CT1HGS, CT3FN, F6HMJ, G3KHZ, VA2AM and possibly
some more CT1 operators will be active in the RSGB IOTA Contest
as an Expedition class entry from Culatra Island. Their callsign
will be CS5C. QSL route is not yet set, maybe CT1AHU. For more

EU-170. IOCA 2003 TOUR UPDATE (Refer to OPDX.614). Emir, 9A6AA, reports
that 4 new islands have been added to their list of islands
to be activated during their "IOCA 2003 TOUR" (Operators are
Eugene, 9A/RZ3EC; Sergey, 9A/UA3NAN; and Emir, 9A6AA. Activity
on July 12-19th.) is:
* Kosmerka : CI-441 (near Zirje Island)
* Vrtlac : CI-442 (near Zirje Island)
* Sedlo : CI-249 (between Kurba V. and Zirje Islands)
* Samograd : CI-248 (between Kurba V. and Zirje Islands)

EU-181. Operators LZ1QV, LZ1ZM, LZ1ZU, LZ1TA, LZ3YY, LZ4BU and possibly
others will be active as LZ1KSL from Sveta Anastasiya Island
in the RSGB IOTA Contest (July 26-27th). QSL via LZ4BU.

EU-187. Operators SV9ANJ, SV9ANK, SV9BGE, SV9BKZ, SV9BMC, SV9BMJ, SV9COL,
SV9DJR, SV9FBG, SV9FBM and SV9GPM will be participating in the
RSGB IOTA Contest from Dia Island (Crete's costal island) as
a Multi-Operator/Mixed Mode/IOTA Island Station (DXpedition)/
High Power entry. They will use the special callsign J49DIA.
Their time of activity will be from 1200z, July 26th to 1200z,
July 27th. QSL via SV9ANK.

NA-140. Jay, AE4MK, will be active as W3I from "Maryland West", Kent
Island in the RSGB IOTA Contest (July 26-27) as a Single-Op/Phone
entry. He plans on operating 12 hours for contest on 40-10
meters between 1200-2400z on July 26th. QSL via AE4MK.

SA-024. Members of the Rio DX Group will operate from Comprida Island
(Grid Locator: GG65) July 25th to August 3rd. Callsigns will
be PT2C and PQ2C. Activity will be on 40-6 meters CW/SSB, on
or near the usual DX and IOTA frequencies. Operators a
PY1NEW (Pete), PY1NEZ (Lima) and PY1VOY (Rick). The team will
be active in the RSGB IOTA Contest (July 26-27th and the K/VE
Island Contest (August 2-3rd). QSL the following via Direct or

JX, JAN MAYEN. Ove, LA2IJ, will be active as JX2IJ from July 24-31st.
Activity will be mostly on RTTY, but also on SSB. Operating hours are
uncertain. Suggested frequencies a for RTTY 14083 and 21083; and for
SSB on 20/17/15/12/10 meters depending on conditions. Ove informs OPDX
he will be busy with work most of the days. QSL via LA2IJ direct or via
the bureau. If direct, return postage must be 2 USD or 1 IRC due to high
postal rates in Norway.

KP4, PUERTO RICO. Alfredo, WP3C, will be active as KP4AH in the RSGB
IOTA Contest (July 26-27th) as a Single-Op/24 Hrs/CW Only entry. QSL

LIGHTHOUSE ACTIVITY....................
Operators CT1AGF, CT1EPV and CT3FN will activate the Lighthouse on
Cabo de Santa Maria Culatra Island (IOTA: EU-145, L.H. numbers: LH 0144
and POR 013 36) using the callsign CS5F from July 19-20th. QSL CS5F

The Bahia Blanca DX Group will take part again in the International
Lighthouse/Lightship Weekend (August 16-17th). This time from three
different lighthouses at the same time. The group will not use any
special callsign this time, only their personal callsigns/provincial
letters (depending on the Lighthouse). Activity from all three
lighthouses will be on all bands (including the WARC bands) and modes
during the 48 hours event, uninterrupted. Here are the lighthouses
that will be activated along with the operators:
* Recalada Lighthouse -- Grid: FF91ia (ARG-009, Buenos Aires
Province "/D"). Operators a LU8EBK/Marcos, LU6EPR/Ricardo,

* El Rincon Lighthouse -- Grid: FF80xo (ARG-???, Buenos Aires

* Rio Negro Lighthouse -- Grid: FE88ow (ARG-???, Rio Negro Province
"/V"). Operators a LU7DSY/Carlos, LU5DRV/Walter, LW9EAG/
Gabriel, LU9ESD/Emmanuel and LU8DWR/Osmar.

LT1, ARGENTINA. The "Bad Power Team", consisting of operators LU1FAM,
LU1FGE, LU1FKR and LW9EOC, will be active in the IARU International

OE, AUSTRIA. Be looking for several OE*XHQ stations to be active and
handing out multipliers during the IARU World Championship. For example,
don't be surprised to hear OE1XHQ on SSB on one band, and on the same
band on SSB hear them signing OE5XHQ. Complete details on WHO is operating
WHAT callsigns on what band ....etc is currently not available.

OJ0, MARKET REEF. Seppo/OH1VR and Lasse/OH0RJ will be active from here
July 10-14th. They will be active as OJ0VR and OJ0RJ on 160-6 meters.
Look for them to be active as OJ0U during the IARU World Championship.

OY, FAROE ISLANDS. Karl, DK4ARL, will be active as OY/DK4ARL from August
4-13th. He prefers CW and SSB. Karl will be active from a camping site.
His mobile home will be his QTH. QSL via the DARC Bureau.

QSL INFO AND NEWS.....................
The 4W3DX (Timor-Leste) logs have now been posted by Thor, TF3MM,
on his Web site at: http://www.simnet.is/tf3mm/log4w3dx.html

Pedro, HK3JJH, informs OPDX that he made 2070 QSOs from Titumate
Island (SA-093) in October 2002. He received 803 direct QSL cards,
and all have been answered direct. He made 1970 QSOs from Morro
Grande Island (SA-082) in June 2003, and received 170 direct QSL
cards, and all have been answered direct. No QSLs were received via
the bureau for these two operations, and Pedro thinks he will not
receive any in the future. Pedro wants to remind everyone that the
ONLY QSL Manager he has is for his Malpelo operations (N4AA). All
other expeditions are answerd only direct to his home callsign.

QSL RECEIVED! George, K8GG, reports "I received my S05X QSLs last week
from the April 2003 operation via the URE in Madrid and I received my
TX4PG QSLs this week from the April/May 2003 operation via I2YSB. QSLs
were mailed 7 weeks after the operation!"

USE THE CORRECT ADDRESS. Ric, DL2VFR, informs OPDX that the new address
for DL2SWW and DF9TM (recently active as V31FG and V31DG) is only correct
on BUCK.com. The address on QRZ.com is incorrect, and they are trying
to have it changed. The correct address is: Family Dreyer, Gartenweg 9,
D-19069 Alt-Meteln, Germany. The Dreyers currently have no internet
access, and the fowarding of mail from the old address will end very
soon. By the way, V31FG and V31DG cards will be coming from the
printer soon.

Rick, NE8Z, announced last week that he is now the QSL Manager for
all VQ9DX QSOs going back to 1996. Ron, AA5DX/VQ9DX is his cousin.
His mother and Rick's mother (WB8WNJ) are sisters. QSLs are being
printed and all old/new logs will be at his QTH within 2-3 weeks. Ron
is presently active again on Diego Garcia (AF-007) until the end of

SV5, DODECANESE. Look for Hubert, DK9NCX, to be active as SV5/DK9NCX from
August 20th through September 3rd. Activity will be QRP and on CW/SSB.

SV/A, MOUNT ATHOS (Gone Silent!). Bad News! Kostas, SV1DPI, informed the
DX community this past week that he telephoned Monk Apollo to ask him to
be active again. Monk Apollo told him that his HF transceiver (an old Icom)
has been burned up for two months. A friend of his (a radioamateur from
Thessaloniki) tried to repair it without success. So he now has no radio,
and it looks like no activity until he receives another radio.

T32, EAST KIRIBATI (Also, possibly KH6). Hiro, JA0SC (ex-KH0/JA0SC, 3D2HY,
XU7ABE, A35SC, 5W0HY, T22SC, 9N7SC, VK9CI and VK9LI), plans a visit to
Christmas Island, East Kiribati, and work on the digital modes mostly as
T32SC in early August. He will depart Narita on August 2nd and arrive
in Honolulu, Hawaii, on the same day. He might be active as KH6/JA0SC.
Hiro will depart Honolulu on Augast 3rd and arrive on Christmas Island
on the same day. Using the callsign T32SC, he will be active from Captain
Cook Hotel for 7 days. Activity will be on 20-10 meters, mostly using SSTV
and RTTY. His equipment is: Rigs - HL-200BDX and FT-100 (Max-power 200
watts); Antennas: 2 element HB9CV and 14-28 Mhz tri-bander. He will
depart Christmas Island on August 11th and arrive in Honolulu on the
same day. Once again, he might be active as KH6/JA0SC before returning to
Narita (August 12th). QSL to his home callsign JA0SC direct (address is
OK on QRZ.COM). ADDED NOTE: Hiro will be active in the "26th JASTA SSTV

T5/EI5C (Where are the doc's?). Bill Leehan, N5SUM, is trying to put
together a list of DXers who like to see or be interested in "pushing"
(getting the ball rolling) the Irish IRTS (ARRL) to obtain/submit
documentation for their 1994 T5/EI5C operation. Currently, T5/EI5C
cards are NOT accepted for DXCC because they never submitted the necessary
documents. Bill has tried on several occasions to contact the operator,
the club (EI5C) president and the secretary of the IRTS. He has NEVER
received the courtesy of a reply, even when he sent money ($$) for postage.

TF, ICELAND. After his activity from Faroe Island (see OY above), Karl,
DK4ARL, will head to Iceland and be active as TF/DK4ARL from August
14-21st. QSL via the DARC Bureau.

TZ, MALI. A intenational team called the "NUMBER-ONES" is preparing to
go to the Mali Republic, and will be active on the air from August 12-23rd.
Activity will be on CW, SSB, RTTY, PSK, SSTV and Satellite AO-40 with
operations on all bands. Their QTH will be from Bamako, the capital city
of this beautiful and tropical African country. All operators are veteran
Dxpeditioners and "Number One" operators:
From Mexico - The outstanding DXer and well known expeditioner
Luis, XE1L.
From USA - The best specialist in digitals and satellites from
Oakland, California: Doug, N6TQS.
From Italy - Computers specialist and complete CW/SSB operator (from
operations such as EL2PP, 1A0KM, JT1Y, E30GA, T77V,
TT8MM, T32R, KH5/I8NHJ, K5K and XR0X), Max, I8NHJ.
From Spain - A young, but veteran, CW operator from Valencia land,
Javi, EA5KM. And finally Paco, EA5RD, SSB/Digitals and
Julio, EA5XX, SSB/Digitals organizing and planning of
this International DXpedition.
There will be more operators added to complete this "DREAM TEAM" operating
from Mali. They want to reach every place in the world with very strong
signals from Africa in a 10 days, 24 hours, all modes, all bands operation.
The URE, Spanish Radioamatuer Association, will be the QSL manager, so

VP5, TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS. Matt, IK2SGC, informs OPDX that he will
be on North Caicos as VP5/IK2SGC from August 10-19th. Activity will be
on 160-10 meters and also 6 meters.

VP5, TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS. Dave, AH6HY, will be active as VP5/AH6HY
from Grand Turk Island (NA-003), September 26th through October 4th. His
activity will be on 40-10 meters SSB only. QSL via AH6HY. His Web site

VP9, BERMUDA. Lou, K1YR, informs OPDX that he will be operating as VP9/K1YR
from VP9GE's QTH from July 9-16th. This will include the IARU Contest.
Activity will be on SSB/CW HF and maybe 6 meters. QSL to his home call.

W1AW/3 IARU OPERATIONS. Well-known contester Tim, K3LR, announced this
past week: "As many of you already know, next weekend is the IARU HF World
Championship contest. Station K3LR (nine band modes) along with two band
modes at K3CR and one band mode at W3GH will host the Headquarters station
for the American Radio Relay League as W1AW/3 for the 24 hour contest. As
you can imagine, this operation is a dream come true for me. Many regular
contest men from the K3LR multi multi team will be here to give the ARRL
HQ multiplier out to as many stations as possible. Operators scheduled to
be on the team a K3UA, N3RA, N9RV, K8MR, W9ZRX, W2RQ, LZ4AX, K8AZ,
K8NZ, W9RE, W3GH and N3GJ. Thanks to Jim/WA3FET and Bob/W3GH for their
help in manning their stations for the W1AW/3 effort. Also special thanks
to the dedication and hard work by Dave, W9ZRX, we will have real time
Intenet linked combined CT log data from the station at Penn State
University (K3CR). We hope that conditions and world wide participation
are good for this event."

XU, CAMBODIA. Danny/M0GMT (19 yrs old) and Oliver/DJ9AO (20 yrs old),
members of the World Wide Young Contesters Club ( http://www.wwyc.net ),
will be operating from here between August 3-18th. Their QTH will be in
Sihanoukville. Activity is planned on all bands 160-6 meters on CW and SSB,
if possible with two stations at the same time. The activity will include
an entry in the WAE CW Contest. Their assigned callsigns are XU7ACT and

YR0, ROMANIA. The Romanian Amateur Radio Federation will participate in
the 2003 IARU World Wide Championship with a team representing 50 operators
gathered around the IARU HQ contest station using the callsign YR0HW.
This year the RARF will use the suffix HW instead of the usual HQ suffix
letters in the honor of YO4HW, their team leader for many years, who died
last year after putting a serious effort in this competition. A special
colored QSL card will be printed and sent via the bureau to all contacts.

ZA, ALBANIA (ALBANIA HITS THE RADIOWAVES AGAIN!). A press release from
Martti Laine, OH2BH: "The International group will be in Albania as you
read this. DL6LAU, DL8OBQ, OH2BH, OH2NB and OH3BHL are there and making
the preparatory steps for setting up a training program to enhance amateur
radio further as well as operating on several new band modes, such as 6
meters and 2 meters.
They will join Geni, ZA1B and operate this callsign until 13 July with
two stations. QSL cards will be handled together with the April/May ZA1B
operation by OH2BH.
At the end of the week they will team up with the Albanian resident
operators for the IARU Radiosport and activate the AARA (Albanian Amateur
Radio Association) HQ station. ZA1A may be re-activated for the period of
the IARU Contest and the upcoming training program. QSL ZA1A also via
OH2BH."

ZONE 2. Two members from "Club de Radioamateur de Beauce" will activate
this rare zone between July 8-15th. Look for Jacques/VE2AZX and Rosaire/
VE2GHZ to be active from Sept-Iles, Havre Saint-Pierre and Natashquan.
They will operate SSB, mainly between 2300 and 0200z, on HF bands 40,
20 and 15 meters (Suggested frequencies a 7095/7225, 14195 and 21295
kHz up), depending on local conditions, using the callsign VE2GHZ/2. QSL
via home callsign either direct (CBA) or through the bureau.

ZS5, SOUTH AFRICA. Edwin, ZS5BBO, informs OPDX that after a long absence
of two years, he has finally put up his beam. He will be active as ZS5T in
the up and coming IARU HF World Championship (July 12-13th). He is looking
forward to working old friends and making new ones in the contest. Edwin
will be operating on 10, 15 and 20 meters. Between now and the contest,
Edwin will be active at odd times conducting tests and would appreciate
reports from around the world.
