* PLEASE NOTE: The report "could" contain "Pirate/SLIM" operations or
more likely a "BUSTED CALLSIGN". As always, you never know - "Work
First Worry Later" (WFWL).

3D2/R, ROTUMA ISLAND. Just a reminder that operators Will/N7OU (3D2RO)
and Rob/W7YAQ (3D2RX) will be active between March 1-10th. Their activity
will include a Multi-Single entry in the ARRL DX SSB Contest (March 4-5th)
as 3D2RX. Activity outside of the contest will be on 80-10 meters. QSL via
their home callsign, direct or by the bureau.

3Y0X NEWS.......
As reported last week, the 3Y0X DXpedition to Peter I Island went QRT
on February 19th at 1813z. The updated stats show that the DXpedition
netted 87,034 QSOs. However, the team's departure was delayed because
of bad weather. The DAP Mares was scheduled to leave on February 21st
and their tentative plans were to visit Deception Island on the way
back to King George Island and then to fly to Punta Arenas, Chile.
However, the final helicopter trip from Peter I to the deck of the DAP
Mares didn't happen until 1859z, on February 24th. The ship is now
underway to Deception Island and then to King George Island (KGI). Peter
I Island is, once again, uninhabited! The last report as this was being
typed stated they expect to reach Deception Island about 0500z Tuesday,
then on to KGI with an ETA of 1600z. As always, updates are availble at:
http://www.peterone.com/
ADDED NOTE: Stats reported last week did not report everything. Lance,
W7GJ, informed OPDX that the 3Y0X team worked over 100 stations on 2m
EME using JT65 (a new digital mode especially developed for very weak
signal work, such as EME), in 33 different DXCC entities. JT65 has
become the standard for 6m EME, and now is by far the most popular mode
on 2m EME (for REAL long path DX - 3/4 million km!) because it is 10 dB
more sensitive than CW. Jose, N4BAA, also mentioned not listed in the
totals were 4 SSTV QSOs made on 17M!

4J, AZERBAIJAN. Operators Mir/UA3FDX and Pavel/RA3AUM will be active as
4J0DX and 4J0AUM, respectively, between March 17-27th. Activity will be
on 80-10 meters CW/SSB and possibly 160 meters. They also plan to be
active as 4J0DX in the Russian DX and CQ WPX SSB Contests. QSL for both
stations are via UA3FDX, either direct or via the bureau.

5Z, KENYA. Mike/OM2DX (aka YI1BGD, YI/OM2DX, YI9X) and Palo/OM2NW will
be active as 5Z4/homecall through March 6th. QSL 5Z4/OM2DX via OM3JW and
5Z4/OM2NW via the home callsign.

7Q, MALAWI. QSL Manager Allan, G0IAS, informs OPDX that he will take
Les/7Q7LA and his XYL to the airport on March 8th, and OPDX readers should
look for 7Q7LA to be active again after March 9th. Les/7Q7LA, along with
Harry/7Q7HB, are expected to activate modes on the bands not used before.
Look for lots of Digi, SSTV, PSK, etc. The length of Les's stay at this
time is unknown. BEWARE OF PIRATE! Allan, G0IAS, has also informed OPDX
that a station signing 7Q7RM on CW has been active. Ron, 7Q7RM, became
"SK" last year and Allan is unaware that this callsign has been re-issued.

8R, GUYANA. Operators Ken/K7ZUM and Craig/AH8DX will be active as 8R1ZUM
and 8R1EA, respectively, between February 28th and March 7th. They will
be active in the ARRL SSB DX Contest this coming weekend. Activity before
the contest will be mostly on RTTY and the WARC bands. QSL via their home
callsigns.

C9, MOZAMBIQUE. The July 23rd-August 10th Ukrainain C9 DXpedition Story
is now available on the Web in English at:
http://www.dxer.com.ua/c9/story_en.html
Also, many photos from the DXpedition can be viewed at:
http://www.dxer.com.ua/c9/pg.html

FT5X, KERGUELEN ISLANDS. Gildas (Gil), TU5KG, who has been active as
FT5WL/mm, is expected to be active for two days from Kerguelen Islands
as FT5XP, February 27-28th. QSL for both callsigns are via F4EFI.

HB0, LIECHTENSTEIN (Update). Kasimir, DL2SBY, informs OPDX that he will
be active again as HB0/DL2SBY from February 25th through March 4th. His
activity will be on 160-10 meters, CW, SSB, RTTY and PSK31. He was expected
to be active during this past weekend's CQWW 160M SSB Contest. He will
be using a FT900AT + Ameritron PA with 600w into the following antennas:
Dipole for 160-10 meters, GP`s 80-10 meters, and maybe GP for 160m.

YB6PLG and YB1BOD. All operators will sign homecall/P. They
will try to be active on all HF bands 80-10 meters and possibly
6 meters. QSL via YB1BOD/6: Donny Sirait, P.O. Box 1206,
Medan 20233, North Sumatra, Indonesia. More details can be found
on: http://www.toba-dx-group.org/simeulue/index.html

J6, ST. LUCIA. Bill, WB5ZAM, will be heading here for a vaction on April
8th and is expected to stay on Choc Bay at Villa Beach Cottages for two
weeks. He hopes to get a J68 callsign, or he will probably sign J6/WB5ZAM.
Bill states that he will focus on 30 meters and possibly 40 meters (He
states this is tough band with all the broadcast stations and SSB from
other hams). Activity will depend on the band openings, his vacation
schedule, weather and beach, side trips and island parties. He will use
a G5RV with his HF gear and bring along his keyer and headset/mike. QSLs
will be printed once he knows what the callsign will be.

KP2, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS (3 Steves Op!). They're at it again! Operators

the General portions of 160-10 meters. Also, if you work all 3 Steves,
you can receive a coveted WAS (Worked All Steves) Certificate. Details
are forthcoming on a new Web page (not yet working) at:
http://3stevesandkurt.dynu.com/

Laura/3A2MD, Evelyne/F5RPB, Annemarie/DJ0FR - as last year -, and

by the bureau.

SY9, CRETE. Dimitris, SV9COL, who used the special contest callsign SY9A

"HMS Bounty Mutineers". The callsign will be VI9NI. Operation will be on
160-6 meters CW/SSB/RTTY. OPERATORS ARE NEEDED! The ODXG informs OPDX that
they are able to accommodate extra operators for various times during this
month long commemorative operation. If you need to contact ODXG, their
E-mail address is:
They are also seeking donations to be strictly used to help offset the
cost of freighting all the equipment into Norfolk Island. More information
will be forthcoming soon. Meanwhile, visit the ODXG Web page at:
http://odxg.org/

VQ9, CHAGOS ISLANDS. Jim, ND9M, now active as VQ9JC, is planning to be
on 80 meters CW from Diego Garcia Island (IOTA AF-006) March 2nd and 3rd.
He should be on the air at around 2315z for both days. This will give
Jim about a 90-minute window to hit North America before he has to leave
for the boat launch back to the ship to start his workday at 0200z. Look
for Jim on 3505 kHz (+/-), listening up 1 or 2, or possibly up the band a
bit to give the U.S. Generals/Advanced operators a shot. QSL via ND9M,
direct or through the bureau.

YI, IRAQ. Neil, WD8CRT (ex-V73NS), became active on February 20th at
0600z as YI/WD8CRT. His YI license came through the day before. Neil is
a contractor working for the military. He will be there for several more
months. His activity will be all QRP using an IC-703 on 40 meters and up.
He plans to begin to operate at +/- 0600z. QSNs on the clusters show that
Neil was on earlier (after 1130z) this past week on 80/30/20/17/15 meters
CW. His antenna is a 20m VEE which he has recently added 40m elements.
Neil thinks this should get him onto 80m and should improve his QRP
operations on 40m and 15m. The height is still only 30 ft. at the apex.
For DX stations, QSL via the Bureau ONLY to his home callsign. For U.S.
stations QSL to his home callsign.
