Actually that's a little misleading. The RADIO isn't really any more
"internet ready" than any other Kenwood (or Icom, or Yaesu) HF
radio. The two computers necessary to make it play are "internet
ready" but the radio isn't anything special.

The trick is the software (which is apparently written only
for this particular radio). The software is just an audio stream and
a CAT control stream. That's been done with a bunch of radios and
different software. The software makes it "internet ready".....

We used an FT-920:

If you are thinking about getting the TS480, I'd suggest you take a
real hard look at the software and make sure it does everything you
think you'll need to do.

Amazing that Kenwood would go to the trouble to write control software
that only works with one radio. All the Kenwood rigs I've every played
with CAT software have a very similar CAT interface, so the software
might even work with other Kenwood radios, unless they made the
mistake of reinventing the CAT interface for this one radio - which is

a stupid pet trick that Yaesu is famous for.....
