Default Kenwood TS570 support ?

While you're mentioning power problems with TS570, I have a problem that
actually shows quite opposite, it shows 60w on the internal meter while
giving full power, 100w out.

What actually happened, a while ago ( in 1998)there was a mod that
enables you to increase power of the 570 all the way up to 200w. I can't
remember exactly the way mod worked but it was something like
short-circuiting pins 2(?)and 9(?) (just a guess) on the 13 pin acc
connector and turning the radio on while holding two other buttons as
well. Then you go into menu #18 (again, just a guess) and change the
power settings. This is not normal menu you access from the front panel,
this is "setup menu" and the radio powers up with "SETUP" instead of
"HELLO" on display.

Anyway, I tried the mod and it worked fine at 150w for several years but
from the moment one, the radio's in-buillt power meter would show only
60w although it would transmitt 150w, and later 100w after readjustment.
I had one of the ATU relays blown (hence the power readjustment to 100w,
hi) so I took the radio to an authorised Kenwood repairer who fixed the
rig, tested and it was all OK, apart from the powermeter. And he said:
"I have no slightest idea what to do about it"

That all happened about 2 years ago, since then I haven't been able to
find any info on how to fix this.

So, anyone had similar problem and if so what did you do to fix it ?

Hi,

Do you remember the emitting problem we have found using the kenwood
TS-570D/G series ?
(in SSB while the built-in digital VU-meter displays 100W an external
quality watt-meter displays only 60 W - using the default handheld micro,
probably dynamic but very few dynamlic ! - In CW this is 90W or more. I
would like to know how many watt are really emitting at the end of my coax
of nearly 100m long !!! That will soon sounds like a QRP station !!).

NB. Theoretically it is possible to improve the power using an electret mic
(kenwood MC-80) but it is not sure. It seems also that the "varidiode" is
set to the maximum. So * THERE IS * a problem on those RTX that do not
really emit their maximum barefoot power, whatever say advertisings !!

If you don't beleive me, measure by yourself with a quality external
watt-meter...

So, to get confirmation of this problem, and I hope a solution, can you
someone out there tell me is there is an email address or a form available
on any Kenwood website that could help me to enter in contact with the
technical support of Kenwood about that problem ?

Thanks in advance

Thierry
