FT-8900--How to Remove Remote Front Panel?

I am attempting to remove the remote front panel from my FT-8900R, but I
cannot get it off. I press backwards on the releaste latch button, but the
front will not separate. I am afraid I will damage it if I force it with a
screwdriver. Does anyone have any hints on how to get the front off?
