Default variac wiring

Allright i bought an old variac from a deceased electronics guru. He
had it wired for 120. the wire ing was in bad shape. so i tested it
to verify it works and then i scraped the wire. the variac has been
sitting for about a month. Now i need to use it and forgot how he had
it wired up. an you all help?
here is a pic so you can see what im talking about.

If you want to run it at 120V with an output of 0-140V or so then
connect the 120V line to the terminals marked 230V line, with the
neutral (white) connection at the top. The output is on the output
terminals with white on the top and black (hot) at the bottom. You
should probably make some kind of cover for the terminals - the bottom
left terminal will be at ~ 140V all the time and there are dangerous
voltages on most of the terminals. It would also be a good idea to
connect a ground lead to the frame.
