I have an FT-50R that I purchased in 1997. I have not used it for 2
years. I have turned it on using DC power supply. The battery is
dead and needs replacement. I find that when I try to transmit via
using the PTT the LCD flashes and the system BEEPS. Their have been
no mods made to the radio. I can recieve just fine. Has anyone
experienced a problem like this? Any help would be much appreciated.

The charger does not put out enough current for transmit, so it tries,
runs out of power, tries, runs out of power. An actual DC supply that
puts out continuous 2 amps or so would do it, although might overwork
the charger circuit.

Plenty of power to monitor and receive all day.

New battery time.
