Default ICOM IC-746PRO FM VSWR meter performance?

How does the VSWR reading work on 2M FM?

I've had this rig for about five years, but never ventured into 2M-land
with it until today, although I've used an IC-W32A HT with a rubber
ducky for about the last ten years.

Yesterday built the dual band Jpole vertical from

http://www.arrl.org/qst/2007/03/fong.pdf

It works wonders with both the 746 and HT. I can hit all kinds of
repeaters I could not with the HT and rubber ducky alone.

That's the good news.

The bad news is that despite good performance and reports, the VSWR
reading on the 746 goes off the scale to infinity.

I know the antenna tuner only works at HF and 50MHz but find no such
caveat for the VSWR sensor. Does it work at 2 meters?
