Found this web page from SK that says "introduced in 1977" http://w4ti.net/ts-830.html On the TS-520_820_530_830 Yahoo Group a Kenwood tech was quoted "about 1979 - 1981". I thought I had a Ham Radio magazine from 1983 with the Gold model but I can't find it now. Others swear it was available as late as 1987. Please share on any info. I got mine in 93' after another gent suffered Field Day trauma from a newbie operator. One of the 6146b tubes actually had a sucked-in envelope! I bought it for $250 with the VFO-230 thrown in. All it needed was a 12BY6 and replacement shaft coupler for the band switch, made from drilled Teflon rod tapped for set screws. I used this radio for the next several years with the same finals at full output (120 WPEP) in CW/SSB and even in RTTY service with the mic gain reduced for 70 Watts out. I sold it 2 years ago anticipating a move. I kick myself now. |

The TS-820S (and TS-520) came out in 1978. I got one soon after I got my ham ticket. The TS-830 added the new WARC bands we didn't have in the TS-820/TS-520 and 1981 sounds about right. -- (Robert Smits, Ladysmith BC) "I'm not one of those who think Bill Gates is the devil.
