Kenwood TS440- need help
I havent used my TS440S/AT in some time and turned it on last night. I just
keept beeping and the display lit up segments that were not numbers, so I quickly turned it off and made sure it was not keyed or anything else was amiss externally. I retried t but it did the same thing again. My suspicion is that the circuit board battery has finially died? Does this sound like the result, and how is it replaced? I went to Kenwoods website to check for a service bulletin but there was none, this is probably covered in the service manual. Mike KA1DRZ remove the QRMary to email me |

Hi Mike
I think the battery is only for memory. You should join this Yahoo Group and read about the " brown goop " and the PLL unlock. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TS-440/ Good Luck Harry Mike wrote: I havent used my TS440S/AT in some time and turned it on last night. Could be the famous "PLL unlock" failure mode. See http://www.mods.dk/view.php?ModelId=521 or google "ts-440 pll". 73, Markus HB9BRJ / AE6MG |

It sounds like the battery is marginal. Do a reset (A=B plus turn-on) and
see if it corrects the problem. If so the battery is on it's way out. It's not a PLL problem. -- Clif Holland, KA5IPF AVVid Authorized Kenwood and Icom Service Center 816 W Shady Grove Rd Irving, TX 75060 www.avvid.com 1-800-214-5779 972-870-0630 (Local) "Mike" wrote in message ... The battery is under the silver shield behind the front panel.

I down loaded the Service Manual somebody sent me the link to from mods.dk site, I found the battery in the parts list but couldn't find its location. Is it obvious when you crack the case, and is it a common battery to find an equivalent locally. thanks again for the tip. Thanks to all who have posted and emailed- I think replacing the battery
will get the rig back into action now. Mike "Clif Holland" wrote in message ...
