Despite its high price and snazzy interface, does it
provide
any
more
useful information then the tried-and-trusted
(transistorised!)
GDO?

That depends on whether or not you have the skills to
utilize
the
information such devices provide.

Most of the hams I have seen with the MFJ do not have the
skills
to
really
use it and a simple swr meter would do just as well or
beter
for
them.

That's a sad comment and contrary to my experience, though
most
of
the
hams I know are also engineers or technicians in real life.

professionals should take up another hobby ......

Why?

because they are a pain in the arse trying to lord it over
non-professionals trying to enjoy their hobby ...

You mean like when they disparage old wives tales that have
been
passed
down from the days of spark but contradict the laws of physics?

yes...and boy do they love to make you feel small....

Sounds like sour grapes to me.

Most hams I know are eager to learn new things.

Jim Pennino

you mean fuel guru status? ...

I said what I meant.

Jim Pennino

Kowtow to a professional then? ...

I guess some people perfer to remain ignorant ****s.

Jim Pennino

nice professional attitude that ......

So your attitude is that people who have expended the time, money, and
effort to learn a subject should be ignored but it is proper to bow and
fawn over someone who's total credentials consist of being the son of
the Earl of Spithollow on Dorkchester?

Jim Pennino

like the big farmer? .....

What big farmer would that be?

Jim is one of life's underachievers and is jealous of those with more than
him, be it knowledge, money, etc. The Big Farmer is a local (to Jim) who
is, apparently, rather well endowed financially.

I don't mind inherited wealth but hate people who are conceited and big
headed about it ....

Because I implied that professionals can be a knowledge source I am
jealous of them?

What sort of convoluted, inane logic is that?

The concept of "Big Farmer" is utterly meaningless to me; must be a
heritage
thing from the days of the manor lord getting first crack at the wife
after
a peasant wedding.

Though it all could be just a knee jerk reaction to the fact that most
people over here view the concept of royalty and titles archaic and
silly.

Also, is the DG8SAQ VNWA pretty much the same principle, or will it also
assess transfer functions?

What is inside that VNWA?

Is it true that it relies on harmonics for UHF operation?

Don't let the troll fool you. Most people over here understand English
royalty, and respect them. We don't go crazy over them - that we
reserve for the likes of Lady Gaga. But we don't think them at all silly.

But a few people think anything and anyone different is archaic and
silly - and try to convince you that's the norm here. It definitely isn't.
