I have a few spelling nitpicks before I suggest something.

'i bought' should have been 'I bought' (uppercase when referring
to yourself).

'kenwood' should also be uppercased as 'Kenwood' since it's being
used as a proper name.

"smell's" should be typed as 'smells,' and the same with 'ideas'
instead of "idea's."

Finally, you seem to have an aversion to the use of periods.

Now, with all that out of the way... A good way to get rid of
smoker stench is through the use of a citrus-based household cleaner,
such as that found in hardware stores.

There are a couple of caveats to use of the stuff. First, it will
eat some types of plastic for breakfast. If you're going to try it on
plastic, try a small amount on a small and inconspicuous area first.

Second: No matter what you use it on, it would be a Good Thing to
go over the surface(s) cleaned with a water-dampened cloth after hitting
it with the solvent. That should neutralize any potential for long-term
finish damage.

Happy cleaning.

What is wrong with a little english and punctuation lesson. Learning

If it has fan filters they may require cleaning/replacing.

I have had fantastic success de-stenching kit simply by locking it in a
small room with a good ozonator on full output for a week.

Even the microphone, when hung a few inches in front of the output
breeze directly in the stream, is rendered completely odorless.

Good luck!

Only two punctuation marks in the whole body and they were both in error.

And, observe the "electronic's" in the Subject:.

You might want to be careful subjecting your electronic gear to ozone as
it is a very corrosive gas and can deteriorate rubber, plastic and
electronic components.

No. Electronics is the pural of electronic.

Electronic's is a possessive meaning that whatever follows belongs to
electronic.

Ozone is a strong oxidizer. Rubber and plastic don't corrode, but
they do oxidize.

Regular scented dishwashing detergent bath is safest for plastic
pieces and makes a good bath for everything.
Citrus cleaners will work faster but may be too harsh. I use a
variety of acid brushes cut down and soft tooth brushes and paint
brushes. I learned all about it with inside telephone systems. I
have had to throw away some mics after immersion.

VFO230 will have fragile plastic, encoder and markings, so very weak
solutions there. Housing should be dipped in a stronger solution and
brushed. Boards will be a problem as anything you do will wash
debris under the chips causing shorts between pins. If you do dip
the boards, it is risky but use clean de-ionized water in the final
rinse.

I saw an article in an audio magazine some years ago, by a guy who was
servicing a stereo receiver which had this problem.

His advice was to open it up, and leave it outdoors in bright summer
sunshine for several days to several weeks. The heat helps drive out
the smelly volatile compounds from the tobacco-smoke tars, and the
ultraviolet light breaks down the tars.

Depending on the equipment's construction and what it can tolerate in
terms of solvents, you may also want to try a washdown with a
plastic-safe circuit-board cleaner - one designed to remove flux
residues and organic contaminanants without damaging components.

Switches, potentiometers, and other sliding contacts will probably
need to be cleaned to remove the tobacco tars... a properly-
formulated contact cleaner spray, or a liquid applied on chamois swabs
or other cleaning pads, should be used for this.

Unfortunately, tobacco-smoke tar is tough and tenacious. Consumer
Reports apparently uses it as their "hard to remove" contaminant when
testing glass-cleaning products.
