anyone out there got a manual for the Azden PCS4000. I got most of
the keys figured out, but cant figure out how to keep the stored
chnls that I write. If I turn off the 12VDc I always loose whatever
is stored. I am assumming that the rig was modified somehow as it
needs a minimal dc current to keep the memory inside when its
turned off with the power switch. Also theres no jack or anything
externally that would accept that retention input current.

No, it needs a good internal battery to hold the memory.

Sorry, Joe. I moved to a new QTH just last week, and my dead
PCS-4000 (bad microprocessor) and it's manual and schematics now
sleep with the used kitty litter. I held on to it for several
years -- hoping someone here would make just such an inquiry.
If it wasn't for bad luck, some of us wouldn't have any luck at all.

Tnx for the hopeless info. Manual gone with the kitty litter!!!!
this used one I got works okay, its just that I was'nt sure how to
store the freqs in the various channels. BTW I switched it on this
morning and wow there was the last chnl I installed stareing me in
the face, so the internal battery must be of a rechargeable kind.
I had it on all day yesterday so I guess the internal battery took
a charge okay overnight. And the freq I restored with its -600
offset came up just fine. I'll continue playing with it and maybe
get some more fqcys installed. One question. Do you remember if
odd splits can be stored?? I/E afmaRS has a 143.450 output fqcy
and a 142.150 xmit freq (odd split) does the pcs4000 accept that
kind of an ofset or is it limited to the normal +/- 600 or
simplex mode???

Ya, but.... Don't rxpect it to necessarily _hold_ a charge --
for very long. If you don't know the provenance of the battery,
just replace it.

One question. Do you remember if odd splits can be stored??

Nope. Dunno.
I had no need to ever attempt that. So, I never tried it.

It's been 7 or more years since I last 'played' with it. It
died on me just about the time I swore of ever wasting my time
with 2M FM again.

well I have figured out just about everything without a manual after
all. I still dont know how to setup an odd rptr split (if its even
possible or not). I can do so with the old PCS3000 I had. I am happy
with what I have been able to do like storeing the fqcys, and so far
they are holding up nicely with power off, so alls well that ends
well.

As I recall, the last memories in the A and B banks can be used for odd
splits. You program the RX side in the A bank and the TX side in the channel
in the same position on the B bank and then put the offset switch in the AxB
position. This is a little hazy, but used two PCS-4000's for years on a
4.25MHz split when I was in CAP. 73,
