Default Now this is a nifty radio !

It is definitely a transceiver on the aircraft band. I fly and carry it as
a
backup in the plane. Also has a backup VOR (navigation) capability
as well as FM radio. Nice piece of gear for a pilot. Plus, as was
mentioned earlier, it has 2m capabilities. Pretty cool.

If I were still flying it would be of interest. As Ham equipment it is
pricey, but as aircraft equipment it is competitive.

It's not aircraft equipment, it's a single-band ham transceiver that
can receive aircraft. There are cheaper multi-band ham transceivers
that have wider receivers than that. My VX-5, for example, can
receive aircraft - AND any frequency from 0.5 MHz to 999 MHz, AM, FM
or WFM, and can transmit on 6, 2 and 440. And it's cheaper.

From what I see on their web page, it appears that the VXA-700 is an
airband transceiver (not just a receiver), with 2-meter amateur
operation added.

It does look as if it re-uses a lot of the VX-7 construction.
