antenna recommendations

I just got a 96 chevy extended cab truck. I have a two meter radio I had in my old Ford f-150 and a magnentic mount antenna on the top. What would be the best looking antenna that maybe is a little hidden I could put on the new truck? I am not so sure I like the loof of the mag mount on the roof. Can you show me examples? Thanks! |

If you hide the antenna, you will also hide the signal. Be brave and
put a hole in the center of your roof for a Larsen antenna. Took me a few years to get up the courage to do that in our Jeep Grand Cherokee, but glad I finally did. It looks just fine. Very easy. You do have to release the side of the headliner. Use a
Unibit to drill the hole, and put a metal plate or something similar under it to prevent drilling into the headliner. In my case, the Jeep had an overhead console. I took that down and could see the roof where I wanted the hole to be. The Larsen mount is designed to be used between a headliner and the roof. I like the ones that use a 3/4" hole, but there is one that uses a smaller hole. When you get ready to sell the truck, just put a Larsen hole plug in the hole. Practically invisible. so It is imvisable form inside the cab right? (goes between the headliner and the roof?) Where can I find one of those antennas and how far do they stick up? Dick wrote: Very easy. "Best looking" is a matter of taste, but here are some antennas and mounts from just one of the many companies making VHF antennas. http://www.maxrad.com/cgi/catalog_ind.cgi?catalog=10003 Personally, I'm a fan of NMO (Motorola style) mounts such as this one... they are very low profile. http://www.maxrad.com/cgi/maxrad_pro...atalog=1000 3 |
