Jon Cunningham, K1TP, stole the picture he published at http://myrockport.com/cover.jpg from http://voy.voyeurweb.com/main/voe38/...078/index.html even though, right above the stolen photo, is the clear warning: "The photos below may only be downloaded for your private pleasure. You may not republish them at another web site or anywhere else." That makes Cunningham a thief and a copyright violator. Maybe not. The photo still had the orginal attribution on it (the web address) and might be "fair use". You can quote or copy a small portion of a work but be sure to mention where you got it from. |

According to Stanford Law School's web page: "Fair use is a copyright principle based on the belief that the public is entitled to freely use portions of copyrighted materials for purposes of commentary and criticism." Cunningham was not using "a portion" of a photo, nor was he engaging in any commentary or criticism of the photo. He was stealing it, and he broke the copyright laws. And by the way, there is nothing explicitly stated in the law about attribution at all. See http://fairuse.stanford.edu/Copyrigh...er9/index.html if you don't believe me. As I said about Cunningham, *spit* I admire Jon K1TP for the excellent work he has done with his website. Keep up the good work Jon! -- 73 Frank K3EKO Note: To reply, remove nospam from e-mail address. |
