Glenn Baxter, K1MAN, is probably one of the best known radio amateurs in the
world today. He is Manager of IARN, the International Amateur Radio Network,
founded in 1985. He is also Executive Director of AARA, the American Amateur
Radio Association®, founded in 1992. Mr. Baxter was formally recognized by
the State of Maine Legislature on March 13, 1991 for IARN's humanitarian
work in world wide emergency communications and was named as a Vermont
Academy Distinguished Alumnus on October 1, 1993 for his amateur radio
contributions to society.

Glenn studied engineering at Northwestern for two years where he also played
football for the Wildcats, and he received his B.S. in Industrial
Engineering with honors from the University of Rhode Island in 1968. While
at URI, he placed Fourth in the Boston University Annual Debating Contest
and won First Prize at the American Institute of Industrial Engineers
(A.I.I.E.) Northeast Regional Student Conference for written and oral
presentation of a technical paper. This paper in Third nationally. He took
Third Place at the same conference the previous year.

Glenn worked as an Industrial Engineer at Allied Chemical in Syracuse, New
York; Worthington Controls in Norwood, Mass.; and Collins Radio in Cedar
Rapids, Iowa. He was also a Management Consultant with Booz, Allen, and
Hamilton in Chicago. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in both Maine
and Illinois.

Glenn formed a Professional Engineering firm in 1977 and later organized
Investors Financial Services, employing 20 NASD Registered Representatives
in Maine and New Hampshire. He has also taught physics, chemistry, and math
in high school.

Glenn got his FCC Novice class license in 1956 and his Extra and First Class
Commercial tickets in 1964. His first stations were a Heath AT-1 and
Hallicrafters S40-B; Heath DX-100, SB-10, Collins 75A-4 and later adding a
Collins KWS-1 which he ran until 1980 when he upgraded to Collins S-Line
gear and a KWM-380. His biggest linear is a home brew PL-172, and he also
runs a Collins KW-1 on AM. Glenn can heard frequently on 20 meters from his
mobile running a Yaesu 757 into a Hustler antenna.

IARN started with a spectacular bang in 1985 during the Mexico City
Earthquake, and the IARN Amateur Information Bulletin Service began its 365
days per year transmissions on 80 and 20 meters in 1987. See www.K1MAN.com

The IARN Amateur Radio (call in) Talk Show format began in 1995. The show is
90 minutes per program on 14.272 and 3.977 MHz. single sideband at 5:30
A.M., 1 P.M., and 8 P.M. and also 3.890 MHz. amplitude modulation at 6:23
P.M. and 9:30 P.M. All times are Eastern local times.

Glenn's long term goals are to raise the standards in amateur radio,
encourage a significant increase in mutual cooperation among rival factions,
and expose and eliminate the petty jealousies and cliques that may end up
self destructing our vital and very valuable service.
