Default CQWWDX CW starts soon

I intend to do a 40 meter entry ONLY this time around. Limited time and all
that.

Hope you all have fun. I know I will.

I caught a half dozen stations on 40 before running off to work last night, and
managed one JA almost 2 hours past sunrise when i got home this morning.

Am off work tonight so will be able to see what I can do with my 100 watts and
full wave loop.

Lots of fun!

Prop to Europe was so/so last evening. Right now I just worked OK5W, and
hearing several weak ones. It is about 4 pm CST and the sun is beginning to
set.

The collinear I put up on 40, working into JA and SA is really working
well. This in conjunction with my vertical loop makes things nice.

Will be on till about 8 or 9 tonight. Catch some zzz and be up about 3 am
again for the Asia run. May get lucky with some good ones. Managed 3d2 in
Fiji and both VK and ZL last evening.

6 AM sunday ... I give up for this morning. Even the XE stations are getting
big pileups, will try again this evening before the end.

Seemed to me that condx to EU were not as good as friday night with the
exception of during their sunrise, nice peak then. Heard a OK1 station at 1000z
!

Am very pleased with my progress though:

71 q's/ 45 mults/ 16 grids on 40m only with 100 watts and quad loop barely
clearing the ground!

Worst signal award: CO2UG, loud but chirpy and 'clunky'. Horrible!

Clip: http://members.aol.com/j999w/DX/CO2UG.WAV

Hope I get some QSL's out of this!

I am at 159 qso and 94 mults, 40 only. I gave up early this AM. Too much
QRN and same same stations. Yeah I was hearing Europe quite well, much
later than 'normal'. It would have been mid morning there. Interesting.

I think I will hit one of the higher bands and pick a spot and CQ. Pass out
some QSO's, then about 4.30 CST hit 40 for a few stragglers.

Yeah, but that's no guarantee.

My return rate is about 75% on VHF, 6 and 2 meters, and that is WITH S.A.S.E.s

I've even included a pre-printed note stating that a QSL letter is quite
acceptable if they don't have any cards, or can't make any on the computer (I
do). This has helped in a few instances, chances are if I'm working a guy on 6m
FM from his mobile, he won't have any cards. Yet there have been a lot of
SASE's wasted.

I imagine the HF rate of return is better, but it's been a number of years
since I've played this game on HF.

So I still say, " I hope I get some cards out of this!" There aren't many
A51's or VK9's out there to work on 40 !

Very true. But I have a story that had a happy ending. I had worked the
Desecheo Island dxpedition in 1993 and sent a QSL with SASE. However due to
frequent moves starting shortly after working them, I did not receive the
card. Well this year I was going through my log to see what I had and
didn't have and noticed the very, very, rare Desecheo Island. I was able to
track down the operators, get in touch with them, explain my situation, and
just a month or so ago, I got the card.

So good luck.
