How are the rest of the CW operators dealing with all the SSB that is
showing up in the 40 meter CW portion of the band?

Here it is the weekend and there's some contest going on and there is more
SSB in the CW portion of the band then there is SSB in the SSB portion of
the band. What gives with this?

On HF I'm a 99% CW operator, only been licensed about a year and love CW,
don't care much for SSB. But I'm starting to wonder why I paid $1800 for
a Yaesu FT-1000Mk V Field as it looks like I won't be able to use it for
what I bought it for this weekend...

Help
George

Tis the CQ WPX SSB Contest. URL: http://home.woh.rr.com/wpx/

A lot of countries outside the USA have phone privileges in the lower part
of 40 Meters.
Example - Canada -- see URL:
http://www.eham.net/newham/bands

Click on

Canadian HF Band Allocation

Get 7.050 to 7.100 -- SSB

Almost ALL countries outside of the Americas ONLY have 7.000 to 7.100
for 40 meters.

Considering the WPX is on, the USA hams are operating splits like 7024/7220,
why not put that nice rig to work earning a few qso's instead of complaining
about the rest of the world? (and learn a bit more about it too)

Because I like operating CW, not SSB. I got into HF for CW, not SSB.

Did you get into it only for 40 Meters? Because 40 is the only band
where you run into the problem to the degree that it might be
difficult to operate. And you never run into that problem on 30 or 80.

There are no contests on the WARC bands, 30M, 17M, and 12M
And 30M is all CW or Data -- no phone.

A DXer reported working the FT5XO Dxpedition on 30M with just three calls
last night.
If you are going to work CW -- get some good antennas in the CW bands.

If noise is a problem on 80 or 160M, make a low noise receiving loop.
