In message , Jack VK2CJC
writes Thanks for the very few senisble recommendations. I'll look those models up and have a think. Funny though, I posted this to 3 ham groups. UK, Australia and the global (ie USA) groups. Global got two sensible replies. Aus got a sensible discussion started. And UK started a lengthy thread trashing CBers and foundation license holders. Does every thread have to do this? Do UK hams always have to project a global image of being a bunch of bicker pedantic ******s? Just a thought. Carry on. Yes, Jack. Absolutely EVERY thread started in uk.radio.amateur, after only two or three 'overs', degenerates into trashing CBers and all those whose are deemed never to taken the 'proper' Radio Amateurs' Examination (not just those with Foundation Licences). It's all really a bit sad. Ian. -- |

It's all really a bit sad. Yes Ian, it is sad. Makes you wonder if a moderated group might be worthwhile. I am not normally a fan of moderation as I support free speech. But a group with an "ist" filter might be good. (sexist, racist, CBist, license classist). Some guys tried on yahoo, but ended up with a collection of separate and poorly supported cliches. I co-run the UK CB Radio yahoo group and take the view that all messages are allowed, no matter how confrontational, so long as they are not abusive or way off-topic. And it works well. In 3 years we've only have a few off topic spammers to warn off. |
