Default Midlands CB woes-Partial Victory!

OK. So I will declare partial victory. Thanks to all who offered their
unique brand of humor and suggestions. I love these boards!
As suggested I checked all the solder joints, I did find some that looked a
bit suspicious, but nothing that made any changes. It STILL would come on
and off intermittantly when I smacked it.

I was just about ready to give up, and I thought I'd try one more thing.
The on/off switch seemed to be the center of focus, and I then noticed when
I pushed the shaft down and held it, the thing would light. Sooo, I figured
something had to be up with the switch, right? So I powered up the soldering
iron again and started looking for loose or odd solder joints. I pushed the
switch down (not on or off, but down) and soldered a few of the suspicious
joints. I had my magnifiers on and the whole bit.

As I pushed the switch down this time, I noticed a small, miniscule little
flash, a spark, but very very tiny on one joint. Ooops! Forgot to power down
before soldering that time. Could it be? Well, I resolderd that joint and
she stayed on! Could it be that simple?

Well, long and short of it, it worked, but only to a point. The Emergency
channel (weather radio) worked like a champ! I REALLY don't use the CB part
of the rig (sour grapes?) so I am declaring partial victory. As I said, the
radio is pretty cheap anyway, and I DID get it to work partially, right?

So, there you have it. I suppose all that banging and smacking (the radio
does bear some of the marks) may have directly affected the CB side of the
rig. Maybe loosened a crystal or something.

Again, this closes the chapter at least for now on the Midlands CB problem.
Maybe I'll find another rig on E-Bay, huh? Well, live and learn.
Thanks again for your support.
