* PLEASE NOTE: The report "could" contain "Pirate/SLIM" operations or
more likely a "BUSTED CALLSIGN". As always, you never know - "Work
First Worry Later" (WFWL).

5D, MORROCCO. Mhamed, CN8NK, reports that a special callsign, 5D6MC, will
be used from Morrocco on all bands and modes July 30-31st (probably for
the IOTA Contest). The QSL Manager is EA7FTR.

7O, YEMEN. Early last week, Vladimir, UA4WHX, informed OPDX that he is
currently in Sana'a, Yemen. He stated that he has "met a number of people
responsible for issuing licenses and the Spectrum Management of the
Yemen Telecom, as well as two deputy ministers of the Ministry of
Telcommunications and Information Technology. Vladimir also states the
following:
1. Not a single amateur radio license has ever been issued in Yemen
in the past 20 years. He mentions, "For those interested in the
authenticy of the fact I can probably provide a written statement
of the ministry confirming the fact."

2. Amamteur radio has never been legalized in Yemen. "PERIOD"
No legal base, no exceptions so far, but the ministry is sincerely
interested in promoting the hobby. They know about it and do plan
to pass laws for it as soon as possible.

3. When King Hussein of Jordan was in Yemen, he requested a license
which he did not get....

4. The ministry has tried to authorize amateur radio activity in Yemen
a few times, but the attempts have always got stuck at the Ministry
of Interior offices being higher or lower.

How can you help get Yemen on the air? Vladimir suggests to write letters
to both ministries and explain the following:
A. Why amateur radio is good (Explain the benefits).
B. Why there is no danger to their country's security.
C. He recommands sending some printed materials about amateur
radio.
The above information is just a small portion of what Vladimir wanted
to relay to the ham community. He wrote another (longer) E-mail to OPDX
over the past weekend which has more details and suggestions to get Yemen
on the air. OPDX InterNet Subscribers will receive this E-mail (complete
and unedited; with addresses and phone numbers) as an additional bulletin.

C6, BAHAMAS. Pete/W2GJ and Steve/AA4V are planning two trips to Crooked
Island (IOTA NA-113). Look for them this weekend in the IOTA Contest and
in the CQ WW SSB Contest in late October. Their callsigns will be C6ARV
(AA4V) and C6APR (W2GJ). The operations in the contests will be Multi/
Single effort. Look for each operator before and after the contests on
the WARC bands. QSL via their home callsigns (QRZ.com).

CO8, CUBA. Juan, CO8TW, will be in the next IOTA Contest on CW or mixed
mode. QSL via IZ8CCW. The log will be on the following Web site after the
contest at : http://www.qsl.net/co8tw/

CY0, SABLE ISLAND. Remember to look for operators Joe/W8GEX, Wayne/K8LEE
and Phil/W9IXX to be active as CY0AA from Sable Island (IOTA NA-063, CISA
NS-004) between July 27th and August 6th. They are expected to be in the
IOTA Contest (July 30-31st). Activity will be on 160-6 meters CW, SSB,
PSK and RTTY. QSL via K8LEE. The team is still looking for donations to
help offset the cost.

EA8, CANARY ISLANDS. Wojtek, SP5MXZ, will be active as EA8/SP5MXZ
during the RGSB IOTA Contest (July 30-31st). His operation class was
not mentioned. He will be on holiday from from Playa de Las Americas,

CW/SSB. The station consists of IC-706MK2G and Inverted Vee dipole on
a DK9SQ portable mast. Suggested times and frequencies: 0630-0730z (EU),

100 watts to single-band wire verticals on the Atlantic Ocean. They plan
to be active in the RSGB IOTA Contest as Single-Ops, and Paul will be in

Cards received with insufficient return postage will be answered via
the bureau. No eQSLs.

GERMANY NEWS (New Prefixes on the air!). Stefan, DL1ELY, explains why
you have been hearing all these new prefixes: "Germany has started to
assign DQ and DR-prefixes. Beside that, club stations can now apply for
2x1-callsigns like DK2A. All numbers 0-9 mean "club station", there
are no 2x1 callsigns for individuals. One more important change: While
all DP-prefixes were extraterritorial area before (like DP0GVN, DP0POL
in the Antarctica, DP0EPO Munich European Patent Office), now _only_
DP0-DP2 are extraterritorial. 2x1-Callsigns DP3A-DP9Z are "regular short
callsigns" for Club stations. Please note there are still no 'DI' hamradio
callsigns in DL."

IOTA CONTEST. Don, G3XTT, IOTA Contest Manager, wants to remind everyone
that the IOTA Contest takes place over the weekend of July 30-31st
(1200-1200z). All are invited to participate. Everyone works everyone,
but island contacts are worth significantly more points, and islands are
also multipliers. The contest is always popular, with many expeditions
to semi-rare and rare islands, allowing participants to increase their
score towards the wide range of IOTA awards. To facilitate this, they are
working towards allowing contacts made in the contest (provided both logs
have been received by the adjudicators) to count towards IOTA awards without
the need for QSL cards. The rules are essentially unchanged from last year
except that the SWL section has been dropped as a result of significantly
lower participation in recent years. The rules do, however, spell out more
clearly than before the format for Cabrillo logs which, while not mandatory,
are preferred. Nevertheless, they are retaining the two-stage submission
process introduced last year, whereby you receive a confirmation E-mail
for your log asking you to go to a Web page to validate your category,
etc. This is simply because, if you use a logging program which doesn't
overtly support the IOTA contest, your header information may not be
sufficient to give them all the data they need. The process should not
take more than a minute or so. The full rules can be found at:
http://www.contesting.co.uk/hfcc/iota.shtml or via www.rsgbhfcc.org
They look forward to your participation in the contest and receiving your
log in due course. Photos and write-ups are also appreciated for the Web
site - to either of the E-mail addresses below, please. Any questions can
be addressed to or directly to Don, G3XTT,
at:

TT8, CHAD (News from PA7FM). QSL Manager Dennis, PA7FM, informs OPDX:
"TT8AMO went QRT on the 19th on June after 3 months operation. TT8M will
go QRT on the 1st of August after almost 5 months activity. TT8AMO made
10607 QSOs on 160 to 10m, and so far TT8M made close to 7000 QSOs on 80
to 6m. During the last week of his operation there's not much activity
expected anymore due to a very busy week. On the 31st the antennas will
have to be taken down, so the real last possible day of any operation is
likely to be the 30th of July. During office hours the 6m beacon is still
running on 50.097 MHz. DXcluster anouncement or the ON4KST chat are the
possible ways to get him on the radio when you hear the beacon. QSLs for
both operation are available. The backlog for QSLs has been cleared 2 weeks
ago, and direct request are being answered within a week after reception.
Direct request with 1 GS/1 IRC for EU or 2 GS/1 IRC outside EU will be
answered direct. Others with insufficient return postage or no return
envelope will be answered by the bureau. A new job for Michael, PA5M, is
already waiting ( QTH unknown yet ) while Pierre, HB9AMO, already starting
a new assignment in Niger (5U). Most likely he will not apply for a license
there as there won't be much operation time left beside the busy work. As
soon as Michael knows more about the new assignment, it will be announced
on: http://www.pa7fm.nl
There (on the Web page) to be found also online logs for both operations,
some photos and audio files for the TT8M 6m operation."
