The latest issue of QST ha a interesting article.
It seems that soldiers today are carrying up to 40 pounds of batteries for all the gear they carry. The US Army, looking to reduce this load, is seeking a portable power supply. This proposed unit must provide 20W output for a minimum of 96 hours, and weigh less than 4 kilos (about 8.8 pounds). The design contest is open to all, and the designer who comes up with the best design wil receive $1,000,000. See Oct. QST for further information. AMATEUR RADIO: A National resource!
