Hey Jimmie! *My Panasonic inverter microwave croaked. *I got a chance to replace the power supply! *The transformer looks just like a fancy TV flyback, and the entire board weighs about 8 ounces. *The supplies are about 50 bucks new. Panasonic vented the ovens through the top, and the moist air flows around the electronics on the side, causing many early failure modes. Figured you'd be interested. Pete Thanks Pete, I order one a couple of months ago to play with and found another at the thrift store the other day. I havent had much of a chance lately. I worked on main frame computer systems for over 20 years and now they put in a new system that is all PCs. You just replace the box when it breaks. I have been going to school on that so much lately I havent gotten back to my project. I do think that there is a place for HVSPs in amateur radio, maybe not microwave oven inverters but someone is going to come up with a good pwer supply at a reasonable price. I invision a device that would mount in place of an existing transformer and maybe sell for half the price of the replacement transformer. Lately my thoughts have gone more towards ways of modifying UPSs. The UPSs operate in a PWM switch mode to convert high frequency chopped signal to 60hz. I figure if you could modify the PWM data that is being used you could drive a step up transformer for HV. One problem I have is finding data on how these operate. It seems no one publishes a schematic. Jimmie |
