No Code General

I am interested in expanding my freeband hobby but do not wish to take t
he General class hammie test until the code is dropped. My question is d
oes anyone know when the code will be dropped and how long woould I need
to wait until the written General test is simplified such as the Tech t
est is now?

Plase email me a WAV of morse code so I can hear what it sounded like wh
en the old hammies used it.

The future of the code is still in limbo, and could be resolved in several
months, or years. As far as the written, it is about as easy now, as it ever
has been.

I will probably be dropped soon, but the FCC has to go through standard
procedures with all the pending petitions. The international requirement
was dropped on July 5th, so by next July it should probably be gone in the
US.

It's a difficult question. Do we applaud him for wanting to go legal? Or
do we slam him for ever having operated illegally? I have known former
pirate radio ooperators whose behaviour on the ham bands after they got a
licence was exemplary.

Not sure what an "ooperator" is, but there are other criminals whose
subsequent behavior is also exemplary. Should their past behavior be
ignored? The difference is only in degree, not in kind.

If they have already been punished in some way by the courts, then the
answer to your query is (or should be) yes. If they have not been punished
in some way by the courts, then, de facto, they have not been found guilty
of any crime, and are to be presumed innocent.

What a great concept! If they've been punished, then hands off. If
they've NOT been punished, then hands off also.

I'd say you're a natural-born criminal lawyer (in both senses of the
word).
