Whilst it's hardly a beginner's project, I don't see why anyone who knows what they're doing couldn't build one of these from discretes and have a lot of fun doing so. Quite true! Where do you suppose most of these "serious stability problems" are going to arise? RF feedback between the stages is the biggest enemy.
