I need the speed of AS or S because the master osc. will be 60-90 MHz. The 74HC390, a dual decade counter in one package, has a maximum clock frequency of 66MHz, and is readily available (or at least a lot more so than the AS or S package -- less power draw too). But given that the '192 is programmable, and this is a synthesizer application, I suspect he wants the '192 for the divide by N counter chain, not a fixed divider. Michael VE2BVW |

Wow! I did not anticipare such a wonder ful response. Thank you very much
all. I will take *all* of your advice actually - I will use the 74AC192 for the divide-by-N counters and try my hand at PLD's for the PLL and peripheral circuitry. I run Linux and can program Perl blindfolded, so writing a programmer will be no problem :-) Again, many, many thanks! -- Gregg *It's probably useful, even if it can't be SPICE'd* http://geek.scorpiorising.ca |

You can use it for the rest of the logic as well, including the phase detector. 73, Leon -- Leon Heller, G1HSM http://www.geocities.com/leon_heller |
