AD is unwilling to sample outside the US and refers me to the local
supplier who knows me too well! (ie that I am a hobbyist and not a
commercial manufacturer)

Show him the QEX article on the AD9854, and point out that a lot of
copies of QEX end up on the desks of professional RF engineers.
