2016 DIGIATL MODE MOST WANTED SURVEY (Press Release). All digital operators
are invited to participate in the "2016 Digital Mode Most Wanted Survey".
Previously known as the "RTTY Most Needed DXCC Entities Survey" in 2002,
2005 and 2011, the name has been changed to reflect current times and to
be more in line with the Digital DXCC award.
Several entities at the top of the 2011 list have been active recently,
so now is a good time to find out what's needed on the digital modes. The

Please be sure to read the "How to use the 2016 Digital Mode DX Most
Wanted Survey" at the top of the page. The survey will only be available
for two weeks and will close at 2359Z on Friday, May 13, 2016. So don't
delay, please complete the survey promptly. It is our hope to have the
results available before the Dayton Hamvention. It's very important that
every digital operator take part in the survey in order to achieve the
most accurate results possible. These surveys help DXpedition planners
and are of interest to all digital operators. Feel free to forward this
invitation to other groups.
A new feature has been added to this year's survey. It's now possible to
work on the survey, take a break from it and resume it later. You don't
have to complete the survey all at one time. There is a button at the very
end of the survey that says "Resume Later". Clicking this option will bring
you to a page that asks for your name, a password and email address. Email
will be sent to you with a link that will bring you back to the survey you
were working on. Or you can resume the survey using your password.

CP, BOLIVIA. Antonio, EA5RM, will once again be in Bolivia from July 1st
to August 3rd, working on a NGO project installing HF radios solar powered
for medical purposes in isolated small villages deep inside the Bolivian
Amazon jungle. He will be on the air during his spare time as CP1XRM using
a barefoot solar powered HF station into a vertical antenna. QSL card via
his home callsign EA5RM.

E6, NIUE. Nobuaki, JA0JHQ, will be active as E6AC (license received upon
arrival) from Niue Island (OC-040) between May 5-10th. Activity will be on
160-6 meters using mostly CW with some SSB and RTTY. From past operations,
Nobuaki uses a TS-480HX w/200 watts on HF and 100 watts on 6m. Antennas are
a 10m Micro-vertical (160/80/40/30m), Single-Delta-Loop (20/17/15/12/10m)

FM, MARTINIQUE. Operators Bill/AA4OC, Joe/N7BF, Mac/WT4BT and Ev/W6ABM
will be active as FM/AA4OC, FM/N7BF, FM/WT4BT and FM/W6ABM from Martinique
Island (NA-107) between October 29th and November 4th. Activity will be
holiday style on 40-10 meters using SSB and the Digital modes. QSL via
their home callsigns, ClubLog's OQRS or LoTW.

H40 & H44, TEMOTU PROVINCE AND SOLOMON ISLANDS (Update to OPDX.1255/56).
Stan, LZ1GC, will be active from Temotu Province as H40GC and the Solomon
Islands as H44GC between September 24th and October 21st. Stan will now
be joined by Emil, DL8JJ (LZ2EN), from Honiara, Guadalcanal Island (OC-047)
as H44GC between September 24th and October 3rd. Activity will be on 160-6
meters, with a focus on the low bands, using CW, SSB and RTTY. Suggested

IOTA NEWS..............
AS-007. Look for special event station 8J1ITU from Kasumigaura City
(Japan JCC# 1430) on Honshu Island (JIIA AS-007-001, WLOTA
2376) between May 1st (1500z on April 30th) and May 31st
(1459z on May 31st). Activity is to celebrate the anniversary
of the foundation of ITU (World Telecommunication and Infor-
mation Society Day - May 17th). 8J1ITU is operated by Japan's
ITU Amateur Radio Club during the month of May every year.
QSL via the Bureau (JARL) or eQSL.

AS-173. Operators Manoj/VU2CPL, San/VU2WH and Kiran/VU3KPL will be
active as AT5P from Island of Rameswaram (Pamban) between
May 6-9th. Activity will be on 40-10 meters using CW and SSB
with two stations (K3 and TS590 with ACOM1000 and ZZ750 amps)
on the air. QSL via NI5DX.

EU-095. Members of the IDRE and Castres DX Gang will be active as TM5FI
from Frioul Island between May 4-10th. Activity will be on
80-10 meters, with 4 stations on the air and will operate on
SSB, CW and the Digital modes (RTTY and PSKxx). Online log
will be updated at least 1 time per day. QSL via the Bureau
or direct to F5XX.

EU-103. Members of the Papa Lima DX and Contest Group will be active
as EJ1Y from Little Saltee Island during the RSGB IOTA Contest
(July 30-31st). QSL via EI5JQ. There will be a possible oper-
ation as EJ0PL before and after RSGB IOTA Contest. More details
will be forthcoming (Team and Dates).

EU-123. Ed, G3SQX, will be active as GM7O from Isle of Arran during
the RSGB IOTA Contest (July 30-31st) as a Single-Op/Mode-CW/
12Hrs/High-Power entry. QSL via G3SQX direct.

EU-174. Laci, HA0HW, will once again be active from Thassos Island
(GIOTA NAS-037, MIA MG-124, WLOTA LH-4186, QRA KN20HS), as
SW8WW (ex-J48HW) between May 26th and June 6th. He will operate
mainly CW, with some SSB and RTTY on the HF bands (usually on
40/30/20/17/12/10 meters) and on 6 meters. He may enter the
CQWW WPX CW Contest (May 28-29th) as a Single-Op/All-Band/Low-
Power entry. His rigs are usually a FT-840 with a MOS-FET amp-
lifier (300-400 watts) and an IC-706 (for 6m only). Antennas
are a monoband Gps, dipoles on SPIDER, and dipoles on fishing
poles. QSL via his home callsign, direct, by the HA Bureau,
or by the OQRS via ClubLog is 'OK' as well.

JD1, OGASAWARA. Tomoyuki, JE6MCA, is once again active as JE6MCA/JD1
from Bonin Islands (AS-031) until May 5th. Activity will be on the HF
bands using mainly the Digital modes (JT65 QSNs on 15/17/40m) and some

JD1, OGASAWARA. Makoto, JI5RPT, will once again be active as JD1BLY from
Chichijima Island (AS-031) between April 30th and May 6th. Activity will

P5, NORTH KOREA (P5DX-what could have been...). On April 26th, Paul Ewing,
N6PSE, founder of the Intrepid-DX Group www.Intrepid-DX.com, Co-Leader
of the January 2016 DXpedition to South Sandwich and South Georgia Islands,
posted the following on his Blog page (excerpt): " As a Blogger, my blog
represents my thoughts and my views only. The content of this Blog does
not represent anyone else but me.
This morning, I had to cancel a DXpedition. It was one of the hardest
decisions of my life. It was not for lack of permission, it was not for
lack of a team and equipment willing to go.
The prospect of a P5 activation brings out the worst in this hobby. The
posers, the nuts, the ill-informed and the opinionated. But in the end, it
mostly came down to a surprising lack of support and lack of funding from
some of the world’s paramount DX foundations when asked to fund grants to
the world’s #1 Most Wanted Entity."
This was just a excerpt/portion of a very long article that Paul wrote
about a major DXpedition to P5 that was going to happen in May. Paul states,
"After tireless efforts, we finally had a letter of invitation in hand from
DPRK authorities inviting us into the country as the first-ever large scale
amateur radio event." However, something happened which bought it to an end.

PIRATE ALERT. "The Daily DX" reports: The ever-persistent Hassan the
pirate from Baghdad, Iraq, continues to plague the Amateur Radio bands.
This guy has been pirating and bootlegging multiple calls for several
years. He has been heard bootlegging the calls YI1HR, YI1H, YI1HRP and
YI1HI and pirating the calls YI1BGD, YI1IRQ, YI1DZ and most recently
TA7/YI1RZ. Unfortunately in Iraq there does not seem to be any enforce-
ment to take Hassan off the air, much less do anything about the sit-
uation. Therefore let's get the word out not to work or spot Hassan who
operates on 20 Meters SSB, usually around 14178-14188. In fact the best
policy is to ignore him completely on the air.

S7, SEYCHELLES. A group calling their operation "A-Sixpedition" will be
active as S79V from Villa Koket in the northeast Mahe Island (AF-024)
between July 1-10th. Operators mentioned are Paul/A65DR/G7SLP/KW4CM,
Joel/A65BX/N8XJ/JG1MBQ, Martin/A65DC/SA6MIW, Gerald/A65CB/DU1AZ, Obaid/
A61DJ and Keli/TF8KY. Activity will be on 160-10 meters using CW, SSB,
RTTY and PSK. They state, "If our location allows we will make an effort
in running 160m WSPR while not operating during nights." Their equipment
consists 2x Kenwood TS590 with ACOM 1010 amplifiers @ 400w. Antennas:
8 monoband antennas will be used, for 17-10m they will have 2 element
VDAs, 20m 3 element VDA, 30m 2 element phased array, 40m 2 element phased
array and 80m top loaded vertical. QSL via IZ8CLM. They will also upload
logs daily to ClubLog, LoTW, QRZ.com and eQSL.cc. For more details see:

SV9, CRETE. Seppo OH1VR, will be active as SV9/OH1VR from Crete between
May 12-18th. Activity will be on 80-10 meters using mainly CW. He states,
"It's a handbag trip with KX3 + Juma PA1000 + EFHW 80-10." QSL via his

XR0Y, EASTER ISLAND. Jeff, K5WE, will be active as XR0YS from Hanga Roa,
Easter Island (SA-001), beginning May 25th through June 8th. Activity
will be on all bands, mostly CW with some RTTY, including an entry in
the CQWW WPX CW Contest (May 28-29th). Subject to a reliable internet
connection, logs will be uploaded to ClubLog daily. Logs will be uploaded

XT, BURKINA FASO. Harald, DF2WO, is once again active as XT2AW from
Ouagadougou until May 15th. Activity will be holiday style on all bands
(depending on the propagation) using CW, SSB, RTTY, PSK31 and JT65. QSL

YJ, VANUATU. Geoff, ZL3GA, will once again be active as YJ0GA from the
Benjor Beach Club on Efate Island (OC-035) between July 8-14th. Activity
will be on the beach from oceanfront villa. Operations will be on 40-10
meters using 100 watts into a an End Fed Half Wave vertical. QSL via his

ZA, ALBANIA (by ZA/OH2BH - April 28th – May 2nd) [Press Release]. Memories
of rare DX: It was 1970 -- 46 years ago -- when ZA/OH2BH came on the air
for the first Albania DX activation. Some 860 QSOS were made in a serious
demonstration as Albania was on the top of all most-wanted lists.
That operation led to the first major Albania activation 21 years later
-- in 1991 -- as ZA1A, by a large multi-national group. There were also
several follow up operations by foreign operators, as well as an operation
by ZA1A students, such as Geni, ZA1B, who was the Government liaison for
ZA1A.
In 2003, a ham radio academic course, the first of its kind, was conducted
at the Technical University of Tirana and ZA1UT was established as a club
station. At the same time the contesting part of the group activated ZA1A
in a multi-multi on the Durres beach and won Europe.
Now Martti is returning to that same beach with many fond memories, and
he would like to contact some of the original 860 while he is there. Martti
will only be on 17/20m. He will also sit down with Geni, ZA1B, to recall
and treasure those memorable days.
So good days are now coming back.

ZD7, ST. HELENA ISLAND (ZD7VDE Postponed). Bill, G0VDE, reports: "I've
just received the disappointing news that the opening of St Helena airport
has been postponed. Following the recent 'implementation flight' it appears
there were issues with turbulence and windshear on approach to the runway
from the north. As a result of the data gathered and the conditions ex-
perienced, it has been decided that there is some additional work to be
done in order to ensure the safe operation of scheduled passenger flights
to and from St Helena Airport.

This is obviously disappointing but safety at a new airport is clearly
