June Edition of Echo Ireland

The Production of the June edition of Echo Ireland is now imminent. May
15th is the deadline. Right now you should be submitting club news,
articles or items of interest to be considered for publication in the
June edition of Echo Ireland.

IRTS AGM 2016 - Awards

This week we continue with listing award recipients at the recent AGM
held in Limerick.

The Lough Derg Shield was awarded to Dave Deane EI9FBB. The EI5AJ
Memorial Cup awarded to Brian Canning EI8IU. The Roseville Cup awarded
to Niall Foley EI4CF. The Thomond Trophy awarded to Network Southern
Area Radio Experimenters EI9E/P. The SDR Trophy awarded to Avondhu
Radio Club EI1E/P.

EI DXCC List

The latest EI DXCC List at www.irts.ie/dxcc shows a number of additions
and updates. We note that Dave EI9FBB joins the 'Honor Roll' for the
first time, while Declan EI6FR, previously on the Mixed Honor Roll, is
now also listed in the 'Honor Roll - Phone'.

As well as being avid DXers, Dave and Declan have participated in
numerous DXpeditions and IOTA expeditions, most recently Dave EI9FBB
was one of the EI operators on the first time activation of Hawar
Island AS-202. Congratulations to Dave and Declan.

Amateur Station Licence Examination

The next Amateur Station Licence Examination will be held on Thursday,
2nd June at:

1. The ComReg Offices in Dublin and 2. The Waterford Institute of
Technology.

Those applying for the examination who reside outside the greater
Dublin area must write their centre of choice on the top of the
application form.

Candidates intending to sit the examination and who have not yet
applied are advised to apply immediately.

Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served
basis.

Full details, including entry procedure, examination fee and how to pay
the fee on line are available at www.irts.ie/exam .

Please note that it is necessary to download the application form from
the web page and forward the completed form and the appropriate fee so
as to secure a place for the examination.

If you pay the fee on line you must still complete and forward the
application form.

The closing date for receipt of completed applications is Thursday,
19th May.

Three Exam Reports which were previously published in Echo Ireland are
available on the Downloads section of the website at
www.irts.ie/downloads under Studying for the Harmonised Amateur Radio
Examination Certificate.

These reports contain very useful information for anyone studying for
the Licence Examination.

Intending candidates are advised to pay particular attention to the
syllabus for the examination especially Annexes 1 and 2.

Cork Radio Club

The Annual General Meeting of Cork Radio Club will be held on Wednesday
next May 11th starting at 8.30pm in Carrigtwohill Community Centre. All
members are requested to attend. New members will be especially
welcome.

Limerick Radio Club

Limerick Radio Club will meet on Thursday 12th May in the Limerick
Institute of Technology at 7.30pm This will be the last meeting before
the Summer break. Agenda items will include planned activities over the
summer months and updates on current projects.

Dundalk Amateur Radio Society

The Dundalk Amateur Radio Society held its AGM on Wednesday night 4th
May. A great attendance turned out for the meeting. Congratulations was
given to Jarek, ex-EI1698 who obtained his new callsign, EI7HCB on the
day prior to the AGM!

Following the reading of the outgoing committee's annual report which
included a breakdown of the club's financial transactions and the
events held throughout the year, the election of the new committee took
place.

The election scrutineer was Kieran EI9DA, and the following members
were deemed elected.

Tom EI9CJ, President Brian EI8EJB, Chairman Hugh EI9KF, Secretary Jim
EI2HJB, Treasurer Tony EI4DIB, PRO Ivan EI1166, Caretaker The Dundalk
Amateur Radio Society looks forward to a busy new club year culminating
next April when we will host the IRTS 85th AGM in Dundalk.

Tipperary Amateur Radio Group

The next meeting of the Tipperary Amateur Radio Group will take place
in The Park Hotel, Clonmel on Wednesday next 11th May 2016 at 8pm.This
meeting is open to all and Short Wave Listeners are in particular very
welcome to attend. A number of radio related topics are up for
discussion as well as plans for participation in up coming events for
2016.

The latest edition of The 5 MHz Newsletter (No.16 Winter-Spring 2016)
is now available for free pdf download from

This edition features news on the latest 5 MHz allocations, a
provisional bandplan from IARU Region 1 and a cartoon that might bring
back a few memories!

DX News

Mek SQ3RX will be on holiday on Gozo Island, Malta from 13th to 19th
May. He will sign 9H3SQ using SSB and CW on 40m to 10m and possibly
80m. QSLs go via the home call.

Janio PY4NY will pay a return visit to Fernando de Noronha from 13th to
23rd May. He will again activate his PY0NY callsign and be QRV on 80m
to 10m CW, SSB and PSK. Logs will be uploaded to Logbook of The World.

A group of Australian operators will sign VK9NT from Norfolk Island
from 20th to 31st May. They plan to be active on all bands 160m to 10m
on CW, SSB and RTTY. QSL manager is VK2CA.

Aaron VA1AXC is back on Sable Island on a work assignment and in his
spare time is on the air as CY0/VA1AXC. He will be there until the
middle of June and will be found mainly on 20m SSB. His QSL info is
direct to JE1LET.

To celebrate the World Telecommunication Day (on 17th May) the special
event station 8J1ITU will be active from Kasumigaura City on Honshu
Island, Japan until 31st May.

radio news may be telephoned to the radio news editor, Aidan, EI7JC on

later than midday on Thursday in order to be guaranteed inclusion in
the following Sunday's bulletin.
