Editor: - Don MacDonald ZL3DMC Distribution: - Alan Wallace ZL1AMW NZART Website: www.nzart.org.nz ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- Special Issue 52S Date 10/06/2016 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- Info-line Special - NZART AGM Queens Birthday Weekend NZART Conference is now all over, and was a great success. Some important AGM highlights and Council announcements from the weekend’s events are as follows: Subscriptions 2017 Subscriptions for 2017 will remain the same as 2016 i.e. Transmitting/Non $99, Family $129, Student $45, Overseas $125. A rebate of $10 is applicable if membership is paid by 30 November 2016. Christchurch Branch Remit The original remit read: That NZART should look at a digital membership with electronic Break-In in PDF format by the 2017 year. After an amendment by Franklin branch which was carried, the following remit was carried on voices: That NZART should look at an electronic Break In, in pdf format in addition to the paper version by the 2017 Year. NZART Website Chris Hellyar ZL3LF gave an excellent power point presentation on the new Website design and advised that progress is well underway with an implementation date of September 2016 for Stage 1. This will include a cull of both old pages that are no longer valid and of broken links. Regular updates on progress will be included in infoline. Chris emphasised that content managers will be needed to keep the web pages up to date; the new website will allow managers to have automatic reminders of when a page update is due. A feature of the new website will allow NZART branches to have their own pages in effect providing them with their on site within the larger NZART website. HQ Computer and Software Council approved a full upgrade of the NZART headquarters computer software and hardware, as the current database has held us in good stead for the past 18+ years, interfacing with the accounting package. The time has come to upgrade and particular care will be taken with back-up systems and firewalls. Call Book 2017 Council confirmed at the Monday meeting after input from the AGM, that an electronic Call Book will be produced towards the end of this year either in a CD Rom or USB stick format. RSM Records in SMART The membership promotion to encourage new and lapsed members to re-join has proven very successful, with a total of 164 applications for membership being received. The promotion has highlighted the need for NZART to liaise with RSM in order to update records in their SMART database as 422 letters were returned as undeliverable and a further 74 notifications of silent keys. This will be undertaken by our Business Manager (Debby) and the Administration Liaison Officer (Don ZL2TLL) as soon as practicable. NZART Examination Software & Examination Syllabus Gary Bold ZL1AN developed the NZART examination generation software and has maintained it for about 20 years and has assisted Council in locating his successor: Andrew Mitchell ZL1AF. Council has appointed Andrew to this important role, and he has already upgraded the software to the latest version to allow continued operation with Windows 10 and future Microsoft operating systems. Over the conference weekend a small working group was formed to look at the NZART examination syllabus to ensure that it is up to date while ensuring it remains compatible with the European CEPT Harmonised Amateur Radio Examination Certificate (HAREC) syllabus that gives us access to operate in many other countries. Awards Amateur of the year was awarded to our ALO Don Wallace ZL2TLL in recognition of his hard work in 2015. Of note while Don was working in Geneva at the WRC 2015 as part of the ZL team Don had to deal with the RSM fees review. The Rothschild Cup was presented to Otago branch for 22 successful examination passes in 2015. The 2015 Best Examination Result under 18 years, sponsored by Nelson Sound, was awarded to Xenia Berger ZL4YL (age 14) of Hastings Branch. Two persons received 100% Examination pass badges in 2015, Antoinette Bartkus ZL3ALP and Ivan Radojevic ZL1IVA. The ZL1HV Jumbo Godfrey badge was awarded to Barry Johnson ZL2BAZ. A certificate of recognition was presented to Warren Harris ZL2AJ for the team that launched (SOTA) Summits on the Air in New Zealand. Congratulations to all. The Stirrers award at the AGM was presented by Vice President Phil ZL3PAH to our Local Government Liaison Officer Douglas Birt ZL2BFS. After Douglas delivered his report Stuart mentioned that Douglas was the person responsible for introducing and mentoring him into amateur radio: to which he replied “we all make mistakes”.
