The amateur radio Training and Assessment Guide is now available on the
RSGB website. This series of documents describes the procedures that are to
be followed for the provision of training and assessment as part of the
RSGB scheme for people to become eligible for a UK amateur radio licence.

ISS amateurs return to Earth

Three radio amateurs who had been on board the International Space Station
for a little more than six months have landed safely back on Earth,
touching down in Kazakhstan in a Soyuz transporter. Tim Kopra, KE5UDN; Tim

The annual transmission on Alexanderson Day with the Alexanderson
alternator on VLF 17.2kHz with the call sign SAQ will take place Sunday, 3
July at 0900UTC. Tuning up will start after 0830UTC. The process will be
repeated at 1200UTC, with tuning up starting after 1130UTC. An amateur

VP8STI DXpedition video now online

The VP8STI DXpedition video has been uploaded to the Intrepid DX Group’s
Vimeo page. Mike McGirr, K9AJ was an operator and the team doctor on the
DXpedition to South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands earlier this
year and he will be speaking about the DXpedition at this year’s RSGB

USA licence proposal denied

American amateurs will have to continue renewing their licenses on a
regular basis, after a petition for ‘lifetime’ licenses was denied. Last
November Mark Krotz, N7MK, requested a change of the rules and the decision
was announced on 21 June.
