WIA: ACMA Computer System Issues Affecting Licence Issuing and Renewals:

Posted: 02 Aug 2016 05:35 PM PDT
http://www.eham.net/articles/37303

As some licensees have discovered, there has been a problem recently with
the ACMA's online licensing database not showing that a licence was current
after a renewal or new licence payment had been made. The WIA has had
discussions with the ACMA over the past week concerning this issue. Late on
Friday, 29 July, the Licence Issue and Allocation Section of the ACMA
provided the following statement: "The ACMA is currently experiencing an
issue with our finance system that is affecting the issue and renewal of
some licences. The issue occurs where an invoice, either a request for
payment or a renewal notice, was issued last financial year but has been
paid this financial year. "Clients who have paid their invoices on or
before the payment due date can consider their licences to be issued and
may commence operation. This includes payments for the renewal of
licences. "We are working with our provider to address this issue. Until
the issue is resolved, data on the Register of Radiocommunications Licences
will be inaccurate.

Stunning Image Reveals Just How Vast Solar Flares On the Sun's Surface A

It is a stunning illustration of just why solar flares on the sun can cause
problems on Earth,.
To illustrate the size of solar flares, this image shows a massive loop
captured in 1999 - with our own planet to scale. It shows a gigantic ribbon
of hot gas bursting upwards from the sun, while being guided by a giant
loop of invisible magnetism. The fiery arches extended about 35 times the
diameter of our planet into space from top to bottom into space. If they
ever hit earth, they would disrupt satellites, power grids and
communications.

Diamond Springs Ham Radio Operator Talks Himself into $25,000 Fine:

http://www.eham.net/articles/37301

The Federal Communications Commission on Tuesday affirmed an earlier
decision to fine a Diamond Springs amateur radio operator $25,000
for "intentionally causing interference to other amateur radio operators
and transmitting prohibited communications." William "Bill" Crowell, a
non-practicing attorney, has continued his deliberate interruptions after
his behavior was flagged by the commission. Crowell has argued that his
actions are protected by the First Amendment. Crowell has made a practice
of "jamming" a thrice-weekly amateur radio meet-up organized by the Western
Amateur Radio Friendship Association. Association members says his attacks
and disruptions are racist and crude. Interruptions from user W6WBJ and
suspected followers have continued for months.
